Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
"The Best Of 2002"
Well, here we are at the last day of 2002. My Oh My, How Time Flies! The older I get, the faster the years go by. Doesn't seem fair does it? When I was young and had all kinds of time, the days and years seem to take forever. Now that I'm at the apex of my lifetime, the years are going ever faster. Go figure. But that's OK, without days gone by you can have no memories. Being a motorcycle rider it almost seems like we have an unfair advantage when it comes to building memories. Every day we fire up our motorcycles and head out on the open road, we are filling out another deposit slip for our memory bank of life. And the more you ride, the more experiences you have to share with others. Something I am fortunate enough to do on a weekly basis.
I know this past year has been full of memories for me. As I looked back through my newsletter stories it has been one interesting and eventful year. So for those of you that have been taking the newsletter for the past year I will walk you down the memory lane of life with Cyclerides.com. For those that have just started getting the letter, this will be an opportunity to catch up. To save space in this newsletter I will give you the highlight of the story and then you can click the link to read the whole story. So if you need something to do in those idle times, save this email and read these stories at you leisure. I will also post this page in the Archives section on the site.
"Best Stories Of 2002"
12/5/01 - This one actually happened
late last year, but it is such a classic that I wanted to include it. I had a couple of weeks in a row where birds
must have had a APB out on me. Read the account of the "Bird Bombers".
2/5/02 - Some of you might remember my story about when I got the request from Mrs. Cyclerides during the Superbowl to make a quick trip to the mall to pick up some "Mini Muffin Cups". Seems like a simple task, but I decided to take the bike and make it a little more difficult. Read how 166 Muffin Cups became Road Kill.
2/12/02 - Ever been to Costco? You will definitely appreciate this story. See how my mind interprets a simple trip to Costco to buy a motorcycle jack. For everyone who has been there, you will enjoy this one.
3/6/02 - Everyone has their war stories about riding in inclement weather. This one is about my trip back from Tucson without the proper riding attire and in very undesirable conditions.
4/9/02 - Remember the story about the Sun Screen? This is hilarious. I got some sunscreen from my daughter that could have also doubled as a glue stick. See how this affected my ride to Chandler. And then read the follow up from the next week.
4/24/02 - This one I will never forget. Read about me giving my daughter her first riding lesson on a motorcycle. With me on the back!! I apologized to Mrs. Cyclerides for all the bad things I did while she was riding behind me.
6/12/02 - This is story that made the rounds and even got published in Full Throttle Magazine. Ever been confused about how to wave, when to wave or who to wave at? I cleared all of that up for you in my story titled "The Wave".
6/19/02 - Ever been frustrated trying to find 10 items in a grocery store? If you don't make many trips to the store it can be a real time consuming effort just to pick up a few things. Read about my trip to the store.
7/31/02 - For those of you that want to take a trip down memory lane. I did a story about the old Then Came Bronson TV show from the 70's complete with video and music. If you are a nostalgia buff, check it out.
9/4/02 - This is from the Misery Loves Company department. Ever done something really stupid on your motorcycle that was really embarrassing? Well, I've done it too. Read how I pulled a classic dumb move.
10/2/02 - Been shopping with your spouse lately? Read about it from a Man's perspective.
10/30/02 - Ever had that little voice in your head tell you what you should be doing, only to totally ignore it and wished you had listened? Here is my account of riding and not listening to my little voice.
11/27/02 - Strapping a turkey onto the back of a bike for a turkey run. Sounds easy enough doesn't it. Find out what happens when things don't go as planned.
12/4/02 - As an avid rider I tend to compare everything to riding a motorcycle. See how I connect that to getting on the roof to trim a tree.
Mrs. Cyclerides and I would like to thank everyone for your support over the past year. It has been fun for us and I hope it has been useful for you. We really enjoy all the feedback via email and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting you personally along the way. So be sure and say hi if we see you us at an event. Because of all of you sharing this with your riding friends, the Cyclerides newsletter family has grown from 3000 to now over 4500 avid readers over the last year. As you can tell, this helps increase the attendance at the rides and events and makes them more exciting. Thanks for your support and being a part of our extended family, we look forward to another fun year in 2003.
May God Bless us all every time we hop on our motorcycles this year and head out to experience our next future memory.
I look forward to seeing you at the City of Heroes Memorial Run this Saturday.

I am really looking forward to this one! This is a well organized and fun ride. The first major run of 2003. The City of Heroes Memorial Run. This run is sure to kick off the new year with a big crowd. Over 1000 riders rode last year. This ride benefits the City of Heroes Memorial Fund and families of fallen Officers and Fire Fighters. Escorted 50 mile interstate ride from Childress Automall to the 2003 Arizona International Auto Show. The ride is now an official part of the Auto Show. Parking will be provided on the street next to the Civic Center. Ride end party at Cooperstown. First 600 receive t-shirt and pin. Sign-in 8-10 am at Childress Automall, 23rd Ave. and Camelback. Ride leaves at 10:15am. $20 single/$35 couple. Vendors, entertainment at the start of the ride, continental breakfast and entry into the Auto Show are included. Phoenix, AZ 800.284.2548. Don't forget the Big Ride End Party at Cooperstown. You will see bags over the parking meters, but that is for us to park in. Look for the models that will be selling 50/50 tickets for the drawing at 10:00 AM. See ya there.
This ride is sponsored by: Rusty Childress of Childress Auto Mall, the Local Firefighters Unions and P.L.E.A. Proceeds from this ride benefits the 100 Club. Since the 100 club was formed 33 years ago, immediate cash benefits have been provided to deserving families of more than one hundred police officers, corrections officers and firefighters who gave their lives for their community. The money from this ride will be used to build a memorial for firefighter Bret Tarver who lost his life fighting a fire in March of 2000. The memorial will be placed at the Bret Tarver Elementary School on 51st Ave. N. of Indian School.
I did a video for this ride that features an introduction to the ride by Scott Pasmore of 3TV, a very passionate interview with Bob Kahn, Asst. Chief with the Phoenix Fire Department who knew Bret Tarver very well, Rusty Childress at the site of the Marc Atkinson bronze from last years ride and an International Superstar as our special guest closes out the video. Can you guess who this is? Viewing this will give you a much better understanding as to what you will be riding for on January 4th, I'm sure you enjoy. Sign in will be at Childress Auto Mall, 23rd Ave. and Camelback from 8-10am. There will be a 50 mile ride ending at the Arizona International Auto Show at the Civic Center. Show entry is included with your donation. Ride end party is at Cooperstown. This is going to be a big ride. I look forward to seeing you there.
