Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
9/29/04

Greetings Riders,

Well, after last week's letter, I found that I was not the only one who has had some "select" issues when going through the airport. (If you didn't read it, Click Here.) I got personal stories from some of you that I saw on bike night last week and got emails of similar visits with the "selectors". Some of the stories from the Women that were going through the airport, not expecting to have their bags checked, were even more embarrassing than my experience. Apparently some of these workers are very thorough AND inquisitive.

One guy emailed me that worked at the airport and said you would be shocked at what they see go through there, especially in checked bags. He said "there is everything from TV’s and stereos, to frozen pigs and other meat (unknown types, and we REALLY don’t want to know), engine blocks, various other car parts, “adult pleasure devices”, medical supplies, and the list goes on." He also said that one of the screeners found a human head (from a cadaver) in a bag. She screamed and fainted on the spot. The owner of the bag was arrested. I guess you are only allowed one head per ticket, and that's the one on your shoulders.

I know I make some fun of going through this situation, but the TSA staff was nice about it and are just doing their jobs. I would rather take a little longer to get through these lines and know that I will have a better chance of getting to my destination safely. In today's world, unfortunately, this will probably become "business as usual".

Extras

I don't know about you, but I am already sick of the 2004 political race for President. Sometimes I think they talk just make it look like they know what they are doing. But sometimes it shows that they have a tremendous grasp of the obvious. Here are a few from John Kerry.
The vast majority of our imports come from outside the country."  - John F. Kerry

"If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."  - John F. Kerry

"One word sums up probably the responsibility of any Governor, and that one word is 'to be prepared'."  - John F. Kerry

"I have made good judgments in the past. I have made good judgments in the future."- John F. Kerry

"The future will be better tomorrow." - John F. Kerry

"We're going to have the best educated American people in the world."   - John F. Kerry

"I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."  - John F. Kerry

"We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe.  We are a part of Europe."  - John F. Kerry

"Public speaking is very easy." - John F. Kerry

"A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."- John F. Kerry

"We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur." - John F. Kerry

"For NASA, space is still a high priority."  - John F. Kerry
"Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."-John F. Kerry
"It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."  - John F. Kerry
"It's time for the human race to enter the solar system." - John F. Kerry

As for me, I will be taking a little trip on Sunday that I will have pictures and video to tell you about in next week's letter.
