Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
11/19/03

Greetings Riders,

Wow, What beautiful riding weather we are having. The leathers are needed for early morning riding and then the layers can start coming off. Mrs. C. and I went to the start of the Halo Run where there were over 900 riders in attendance. I just want to complement them on putting on such an excellent run. There was plenty of food, drink and activities for everyone. And the venue at Turf Paradise was an excellent start to the ride. We didn't make the end location but I heard everyone had an excellent time.

It is kind of interesting how one event in your life will have a direct impact on something totally not related. I have been going to plenty of events for the last 4 years and most of them have a T-Shirt as part of the gifts for registration. And the Halo Run was no exception. So over the years I have collected quite a few of these event shirts. Even though I might not actually wear it more than once, I would still hang it up in the closet. It's kind of funny how the mind works. I am the type of personality that I can tolerate a little nuance for quite a while until one day something just snaps and things have to change. I'm sure you have all been there. Be it the garage, the office desk or whatever, I seem to tolerate it for a while and then all of a sudden it has to be fixed.

That is exactly what happened when I came home to put my Halo Run shirt on a hangar. Over the years I had collected so many T-shirts that it almost took a crow bar to pry them apart to get another one in. Or when I tried to pull one out, 6 more came with it. There were so many run shirts, Harley shirts and Cyclerides shirts that not even one more was going to fit. I know some of you are reading this and thinking..."I have the same problem". So Sunday became the designated clean out the closet day. I went through every piece of clothing on my rod and if I hadn't worn it in the last 3 months, it was gone. And this meant two 40 gallon trash bags of T-shirts made their way to St. Vincent De Paul's. Even though it cost me a day of riding, it was worth getting my closet space back and ready to start a new collection. So if you are downtown and see a homeless guy pushing a shopping cart while wearing a Cyclerides.com T-Shirt, you might have a good guess where it came from.

I usually put something like this in the EXTRAS column below, but I thought it was good enough to go here. I get a lot emails during the week, but every once in a while there is one that is exceptional. Hearing the daily news reports about our soldiers getting killed in Iraq is really disturbing. Whether we agree if they should be there or not, as a country we should still support them to the fullest. It has to be excruciating for them to be away from their homes and children for so long. Someone put together a flash presentation with music from Ricky Skaggs with an overlay of a little girl talking to her Dad who is a soldier. Whew! This is very touching and really puts things into perspective. I encourage you to watch this. Click Here To View.

Update On Toys To Kids Ride.

Last week I asked that anyone who was planning on going on the ride to please let us know how many would be in their group so that we could plan for food at Rawhide. We have already had 1000 riders respond and I thank you for that. If you haven't yet indicated your group interest, please Click Here.
THERE IS A NEED THAT WE HAVE. So that everyone can see the kids faces and expressions, I would like to have a video screen set up and a camera so that people behind the kids can see what is going on. If you or your company has access to a video screen or large TV and would like to donate it for the day, we would all appreciate it. Please contact me at info@cyclerides.com

Extras

All Vrod Owners! This one is for you.
As many of you know, the Vrod is a great motorcycle. We have over 20,000 miles on Mrs. C's. But one of the issues with the Vrod is the sound. I have been waiting 2 years for someone local to come up with the perfect modification for stock Vrod pipes and it is finally here.
Custom Performance has developed a Stage 1 kit for the Vrod that is exceptional. They modify the existing pipes to give them a very low rumble with an aggressive sound, but not that tinny or loud sound that you hear from some of the aftermarket pipes. Then Nick adds a K&N Filter and modifies the EFI System and Induction System. As a result of this you will gain anywhere from 4-8 Horsepower and some excellent sound from the stock pipes. Click Here for the dyno sheet. I had this done to Mrs. C's Vrod and I am thrilled with the results. I would highly recommend it. The cost of the Custom Performance Stage 1 Kit is only $449.95 installed, 1/2 of what other stage 1 costs are and what most pipes alone cost for the Vrod. Give Nick a call to discuss the Vrod Stage 1 Kit. You will love it. 623-879-8488.
