The Military Order of the Purple Heart
Department of Arizona Press Release:

On Saturday, August 7th, 2004 10:00 AM. The Arizona portion of U.S. I-40 will be officially dedicated as THE PURPLE HEART TRAIL. This dedication is to recognize and honor ALL of the men and women who have been killed and wounded in combat against enemies of our great country.

The legislative process was begun in 1996 by William Harper, and in 2003, the House Joint Resolution 2001 designated that portion of Interstate Highway 40 from the California border to the New Mexico border as “THE PURPLE HEART TRAIL”; IN HONOR OF ALL PURPLE HEART RECIPIENTS.

The resolution was approved by Governor Janet Napolitano on May 12, 2003.

The Purple Heart trail originates in Mount Vernon, Virginia home of George Washington and transcends across the United States into California. Over 21 states plus Puerto Rico. Hawaii and Guam have implemented THE PURPLE HEART TRAIL.
