Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
9/15/04

Greetings Riders,

Well, we are officially coming into the riding season in Arizona. The temperatures are forecasted to be in the mid 90's by the weekend which will be a welcomed relief from the heat. The September Calendar features many of the Harley Dealerships kicking off the new 2005 models as well as Charity Rides that are filling in the end of the month. The October Calendar already has 17 rides that are scheduled throughout the State. There are a lot of good events already set up, but one that I am a co-sponsor of is the Special Olympics Arizona Activities Run on October 23rd. I have always wanted to do a run that would break the mold of the typical Poker Run by inserting several everyday sports including shooting a basketball or throwing darts to accumulate points. This should be a very different and fun ride that will end in downtown Phoenix at Jackson's On 3rd with live music and the street shut down. To pre-register by 9/30 for $15.00 that includes a ride pin and t-shirt, and be included in the $250 prize drawing Click Here.

Stay tuned for some new exciting events and Bike Days that I will be announcing in the next couple of weeks that will give us a place to ride to and keep us all entertained.

The Patriot Ride last Saturday was another sign that motorcyclist in this town are ready to get out and ride. As has been in the past, it was a hot one. But even though it was a scorcher, around 900 riders spread on the sunscreen and made it to kick off the riding season. It was a nice route that took us from Bell Ford, North on I-17, through Carefree to Bartlett Lake. Although it was hot and dehydration was the topic of the day, it was great to see all of the flags on the bikes as they were going down the road. I took several pictures of the ride. Click Here to see them.

When we were getting ready to leave Bartlett Lake we were passed by a Sheriff vehicle with the lights and sirens going. This type of thing really gives you an unsettling feeling knowing that the chances are high that a motorcycle is involved in an accident. As we made our way on the 14 mile road from the lake, our fears were confirmed. The road was completely closed and we learned that two motorcycles had run into the back of a horse trailer. When we arrived, the paramedics were on the scene and 2 of the riders were taken by helicopter to the hospital. We don't know how it happened, but as we sat there for an hour waiting for the road to open, it was another reminder that we need to keep safety on top of our list of things to do as we are riding. The report from the police was that there were no fatalities.

OCC Ticket Update:
I am still working with the ticket company to provide to you the print at home ticket. At this point, it has not been to my expectations. It is taking a little longer than I would have hoped, but it should be worth the wait for your convenience. I will notify you the moment they are ready.
