Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,
Well, if you are new to the Valley of the Sun and have been enjoying the great weather we had in June, Surprise!! Your initiation to a real Phoenix Summer is supposed to happen this weekend. According to the weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday, you are about to see why the "Snow Birds" haul their feathers back home this time of year. The meteorologists are calling for highs in the 115 range for the weekend. Even for an old desert rat like me, that is getting pretty hot. So if you are heading out of town this weekend, have plenty of water available for that re-entry burn that you will undoubtedly experience right around Black Canyon City. It seems like at Rock Springs someone turns on a hair dryer about 6 inches from your face. Those of you that have "been there done that" know what I am talking about.
If you missed the newsletter last week with the announcement of the Rocky Point Rally being UN-Cancelled, Click Here to Read. Here is a comment that just came in from a reader about Rocky Point that I wanted to share with you:
"I found it interesting this week that Rocky point was brought up in the news letter. I too was very skeptical and cautious with all the goings on as well and a bit nervous about Rocky point. I researched as well and found no issues in Sonoyta or in Rocky point and just spent 5 days there for 4th of July. Attendance is WAY down there and for a holiday weekend it was not busy at all. We wondered if it was the economy, the swine flu, the border violence of maybe some just can't get passports, maybe all have something to do with it. In any case, we had no issues and loved it just as much as we always did. There aren't any issues I have heard or seen. Just wanted to share that with you and the members that all is ok there. Keep two wheels down my friend."

I think this will be the shortest newsletter ever. Not only are there no events on the calendar for the next couple of weeks, but I didn't get the story and pictures completed from our short 850 mile trip to Big Bear Lake in California last weekend. Big Bear is a beautiful destination, the weather was in the mid to high 70's and the fireworks show was outstanding. But we had to come home, and there is only one way back and that is across the hot desert on I-10, which happened to be cooking at 110-114 degrees for about 200 miles. So part of next week's letter will be about how to survive that kind of trip.
The Westgate Bike Night ended last Thursday with the largest crowd ever estimated at 1500 people. It was extremely hot, which reminded us all why we are shutting it down. On behalf of and Westgate City Center, I would like to thank all of those that came out on Thursday nights for the last 13 weeks and enjoyed this great facility that was opened up to motorcycle riders. It was truly a marquee event for riders in Valley area. Thanks to everyone for making this a fantastic event, for respecting the facility and allowing us to keep the door open for possibly doing this again in the Fall. Stay tuned to the newsletter for updates. Click Here to sign up. Thanks to our Westgate Bike Night Sponsors - GEICO Motorcycle Insurance, Arrowhead Harley-DavidsonRidenow Powersports and Chuck Franklin Law.
Stay tuned next week for my story and beautiful photographs of the Big Bear Lake area. It really is a great destination with plenty to do and lots of good riding in the area. The hardest part is surviving the trip back. It is likely that we will be feeling the heat again this weekend as we will be heading up North for a Day Ride that I am calling the "Monument Tour". Hopefully it will be a good route to share with you.
Stay Cool, Stay Safe and carry a lot of water with you if you are like us and taking a ride this weekend.

I think I might have had this in the letter a couple of years ago, but it has come around again and reminds us about style Vs. substance. This is a classic. Click Here to View.

Video of the Week
If you are ever stopped for suspicion of DUI, there are certain things you would not want to do. Trying to take a swig out of the Breathalyzer would be at the top of the list of what not to do. The laughing around this is really funny. Click Here to View.

Until Next Week,
Blessings and Safe Riding To All,
