Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
7/21/04

Greetings Riders,

Welcome to Monsoon Season in Arizona.
Yep, it is that time of year that pretty much stinks for riding motorcycles. Not only is the heat index and humidity at increased levels, but if you are heading North to get some relief, you never know what thunderstorm you are going to run into. I guess that is why they make rain suits. But that's OK, sometimes half the fun is trying to not get nailed by one of these nasty storms. But if you have been riding in Arizona very long, I'm sure you have had a taste of these at least once.

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that after a 2 year break since our California trip, Mrs. C. and I were planning another motorcycle ride.
Well, that time is now upon us. The in-laws are arriving tomorrow to enjoy some of our fine weather and stay with the house. Hopefully this time they will bring their paint brushes and do the inside. This year we decided to head up to the Great Northwest and Canada, AAY! I asked for suggestions from riders and those of you that had ideas really came through. It made planning much easier and hopefully will keep us from chasing those stops that sound good on paper, but just end up being a little bit better than seeing the world's largest frying pan.

This time we are going to start our ride in Seattle.
Due to the fact that we only have 8 days to spend on the road, we decided make the most of those days and spend it riding in areas that we wanted to see. So we are doing our own version of Harley's Fly and Ride. We have shipped Mrs. C's bike to Seattle where we will fly into on Friday morning. Arriving at 10am we will take a short 4 mile cab ride to Downtown Harley-Davidson to pick up the bike. From there we will head straight to our first stop in Whistler, British Columbia, home of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Day 2 will take us on a 240 mile loop through Lillooet. From there we will follow the Fraser River through Lytton, Hope and back to Vancouver where we will hopefully catch the last ferry to Departure bay on Vancouver Island. If all goes well, we will then ride 60 miles and end the 2nd day in Victoria, BC. If you have an interest in Victoria, here is a 7 minute video you can watch.

After day 2 (and maybe even before if we don't catch the ferry) everything after that is a crap shoot.
We have no reservations and with all of the stops, we are not even sure how far we will make it each day. From Victoria we will take the ferry to Port Angeles and make our way to Portland to take a ride around Mt. Hood, Multnomah Falls and the old Columbia Hwy (click on the photos button on this page) through the Columbia River Gorge. From there it will be back up 26 to the coast of Oregon. On the way down the coast of Oregon we will take one little route inland to see some of the many covered bridges. From there we will continue down the coast of California to through the redwoods and the Avenue of the Giants and then on to Monterey on Friday to stay the night with a friend. From there it will be back to the warm weather of Phoenix. I have checked the forecasts in the areas that we are going and believe it or not, Canada will be the hottest place we will see at 100 degrees. The coast is predicting sunny and low 70's with inland in the 80's.

I was going to try and update the site with pics and text along the way,
but connections and time will just be too unpredictable. With limited time available, my main focus is to pile on as many miles as we can, see as much as we can see, take as many pictures and video as possible, and share it all with you when we return. Hopefully it might be a trip for you to duplicate. But I will give you an update of our progress in next week's newsletter.

I ran across this video of athletes that didn't quite complete their assigned task. It will make you go AHHH! It is only 2 mb so anyone can view it. Click Here.

Here is a 1 mb video from a camera at an intersection that shows a real car wreck.
Watch the guy walking across the street in the upper left of the screen. Pretty amazing. Click Here.

This has been getting tremendous press. I even saw an interview with the guy who created this on CNN this morning. They even played 30 seconds of this on Channel 12 News last night. It is a really funny parody on
Bush and Kerry to the tune of This Land Is My Land. It is very funny and worth the download. For some reason the site takes a while to load. So hang in there. For dial up users it could take a while to start playing. Click Here to view.

I had this in last week, but it got so much interest I decided to run it again. This is Hilarious! It is a parody about Onstar for blondes. This one is called Blondestar. It is about a woman that calls Blondestar to tell them that she has locked her keys on the "Outside" of her car. Very funny. It is a 1:14 long 1.2 mb .mp3 file that anyone should be able to download and listen to. Click Here to listen.

As for me this weekend. I will be in Canada for the beginning of our 8 day ride.

Until Next Week,
Blessings and Safe Riding To All,
