Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
6/18/08
Greetings Riders,
The Cyclerides Weekly Update is coming to you this week from Lake Tahoe, NV. Mrs. C. and I decided to get our annual ride in earlier this year and from what I
hear about the weather in Phoenix, our timing couldn't have been much better. W through this one together pretty
quickly, but so far so good. We left Phoenix at 5:30 am Sunday morning to beat the heat in Palm Springs and the
L.A. traffic. For any of you that have ridden through Palm Springs in the Summer, you know it is a good idea to
get that done before 10am if possible or it can be one toasty crossing in that area. We went through there at only
102 degrees so it wasn't too bad.
Our route this year is literally being made up by the day. Trying
to really concentrate on the backroads of California as much as possible. The first stop was the Reagan Library
in Simi Valley (awesome), Santa Barbara for the night and then up one of my favorite rides, the Pacific Coast Highway,
CA #1, to Monterey. The weather was absolutely perfect this time, most of the ride was between 65 and 72 degrees.
From what I hear about 50 degrees less than Phoenix. Then it was the back roads to San Francisco where after 4
trips there I finally got pictures of the Golden Gate bridge with no fog around it. In fact, it was 72 with blue
skies, the warmest I had ever seen there as well.
Today brought us to Lake Tahoe via Carson Pass for a lap around the lake. First time I had done that and it was worth the wait. Very pretty ride. Tomorrow
will take us over at least 2 more passes in the Sierra Nevadas, Ebbets and Sonora, before going over the 4th
pass, the Tioga Pass through Yosemite. Then on down to a favorite ride of mine, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National
Parks.
Needless to say, there will be plenty of pictures, as I have already taken over 1000. There are some stunning photos and I have some really neat roads that you will want
to take on a trip in this area. If you are looking to get out of the heat soon, head for the coast. It is always
cool this time of year. Our high water mark today was 8000 feet where it dipped down to about 69 degrees. I Am
looking forward to getting back to share this trip with all of you over the next few weeks. Might give you
some ideas to plan your own real soon. Here are a few great photos that you can look at before I start with
the stories of the ride with all of the photos. Click Here to View Photos.
My aplogies on return emails. I am not
ignoring you, just trying to juggle everything right now. I'm trying to answer those that ask for a response as
soon as possible. The others I have read and am reading as fast as I can. I appreciate all of the replies, I will
get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks, Barry
