Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
5/25/05

Greetings Riders,

Well, it looks like the dog days of Summer for motorcycle riding showed up a little early in the Valley of the Sun this year. Those of you that live here know what I am talking about, it is the days that have already warmed up to 100 before you can get the bike out of the garage and 110 degrees by 4:00 in the afternoon. For my personal enjoyment I'm pretty good to go up until about 105 degrees if riding around town. Much past that, those stop lights start getting pretty long as you are baking on the asphalt. Fortunately for us, I think this was just a little blip on the high end of the thermometer, we really don't look for this kind of weather until late June or July. But, it was a good reminder of what is to come so we can start working our mindset to accept the higher temps.

I know a lot of you are out of town this weekend or taking a little break. I am too. But for now, if you are stuck inside and want to do a little day dreaming, I have a new bike photos page with 63 photos of motorcycles that I have taken around the State for you to spend some time on. And if you want to watch a slideshow of the photos to music you can do that too. Click Here to view the video slideshow. When viewing the slideshow in the media player, click the Alt and Enter buttons to go to a crystal clearfull screen presentation with music. Click Here to view the photos.

As most of you know, this is Memorial Day weekend. But do you know what the true meaning of Memorial Day is? According to a Gallup Poll done in 2000, only 28% of Americans knew the meaning of Memorial Day. It's not just another national holiday that gets us another day off of work, it really means a lot more than that, especially in times of war like our Country is in now. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service that takes place the last Monday of May. To help re-educate and remind Americans of the true meaning of Memorial Day, the "National Moment of Remembrance" resolution was passed in 2000,   asks that at 3 p.m. local time, for all Americans "To voluntarily and informally observe in their own way, a Moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence.

Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend and take a moment to remember our troops that have given their lives for the freedom of our Country throughout all of the wars in our past. I will be back over the next couple of weeks to give you some new ideas for riding out of the heat.
