Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
4/5/05

Greetings Riders,

Arizona Bike Week is now in the middle of the 10 day run. And judging by the amount of bikes on the roads, it looks like a fair amount of riders are getting out this year. Friday afternoon Mrs. C. and I made it to the Grand Opening Party at Buddy Stubbs HD. As I have said before, there is nothing like the Grand Opening of a new Harley-Davidson store to bring out the crowds. Thousands of people went through the store that day and several got a look at and an autograph from the world renowned motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel. That is until the ambulance came to take him away to the hospital. Apparently, Evel has serious pulmonary problems and is in need of a lung transplant. However, the tough guy that he is, he was out of the hospital the next day and at The Handlebar Saloon to greet the crowd.

Later that night Mrs. C. and I  took the escorted ride (without Evel) with an estimated 1000 riders to The Handlebar Saloon to watch the Marshall Tucker band. Saturday we spent a few hours at Cyclefest to take a look at the vendors. We also stopped at the Vietnam Veterans Traveling Wall and talked to some Veterans that lost family members and friends in Vietnam.  If you haven't seen this yet, it is very inspirational. The paintings were also worth a walk through the tent. The artist served in Vietnam and really captures the essence of what it must have been like. Click Here for some pictures. Sunday Mrs. C. and I were wanting to take advantage of the great riding weather so we took a ride to the Hungry Bear Roadhouse in Mayer for the breakfast buffet and to watch the riders come in from the Superstition HD Discovery Ride. Later that day we were back for a quick stop at Rawhide before heading down to Sugar Daddy's for the Sunday bike show presentations.

For those of you wanting to get out and be with a bunch of other riders and walk the streets to see a lot of cool bikes, ride over to the Tuesday Night Downtown Scottsdale Party with ACME, Dos Gringos, Billlet Bar and Billy Bob's. This is the night that Craftsman Ct. is blocked off in Old Town Scottsdale and is the closest thing we have to an event that would even be similar to resembling anything in Daytona or Sturgis. There will be bikes parked from one end of the street to the other. The energy is usually high and it is a fun time to walk the block to see a lot of different bikes and visit the places along the street. Riders then move on to the Billet to finish the night and watch all of the bikes roll down Scottsdale Rd. The whole evening is a good time.

Wednesday is the Wednesday Ride for Kids. This is one of my favorite long rides during Bike Week. If you like to ride like we do, don't miss this one. It is a beautiful 250 mile ride up through Payson, Pine, Strawberry, Cottonwood, Mayer and back to Rawhide for raffles, awards and live music. There have been over 1000 bikes in this ride for the last couple of years so it is a good time to meet some new friends at each stop and enjoy the beautiful riding weather. Sign in is from 8-9:30am. We will be leaving at around 9:15am from Buddy Stubbs. Come out and enjoy the ride.

I have been mentioning the new Cave Creek Roadhouse that is to be opening soon. It is located directly across the street from Harold's on the North side of the road. You can't miss it. They are planning on opening the doors this weekend featuring the music of Rondavous. This is a very cool building that features an outdoor patio and the inside appears to be right out of the old West with a huge rectangular bar in the middle of the room. Be sure and stop by this weekend to see the newest motorcycle friendly restaurant. It will soon be a favorite stop for all riders on their ride through Cave Creek.

These are just a couple of personal recommendations for the week that I wanted to point out. See below for the rest of the schedule and some new additions of events going on this week as well.
