Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
4/23/03
Greetings Riders,
Well, here we are at the end of April already. It's
amazing the weather has been so cool this far into the year here in Arizona. I remember just last year at this
time how hot it was and how bad of a sunburn I had at about this time. If I remember right, I got hold of some
sunscreen that was more like a glue stick than sunscreen. Click Here for that story. Personally
I am ready for a little warm weather to make some more trips to the high country. My next "Day Trip"
feature is going to be Mt. Lemon in Tucson. I have not been there, so if any of you have some tips for me about
riding around that area, let me know. I should be doing that in the next 2 weeks. Just waiting for some good weather.
Last week I did a brief recap on Arizona Bike Week and what I thought should
happen to make it even better. Wow, a lot of you also had an opinion on that as well. I
received tons of emails with your spin on what should be done. The common
theme of the responses were similar to what I said and that is we need a central location for everyone to cruise,
hangout and be around other motorcycles. One man said it best, "Arizona Bike Week Needs a Soul". That
pretty well sums it up. There were 554 votes in the poll that rated Bike Week
on a scale of 1-10. There were 343 (62%) of those that voted rated it at a 5 or below. But 527 (96%) of you said
you would go again next year with some improvements. Thanks to all who voted and emailed your ideas on improvements.
I'm sure your voting and responses will be heard loud and clear. I am forwarding all of these to the promoters
of the event. Look for the link to pictures from Bike Week on the front page of www.cyclerides.com .
I'm sure there are a lot of you that are heading out for either Laughlin or
Rocky Point this weekend so I am going to keep the commentary short
this week. If you are looking for others to ride to Laughlin with, there is a group meeting
at Walmart parking lot on Grand Ave, north of Bell Rd this Thursday between 8-9 AM. But I would also like to point
out that the May calendar is starting to fill up. I am adding several rides and events over the next couple of
days. There are 4 excellent rides coming up the very first weekend in May. I always hate to see this many good
rides overlapping each other. Check them out on the May calendar at www.cyclerides.com .
Being Bugged lately? Stay tuned next week as I give my report as an "Etymologist".

This Week's Report from Stan Dale:
Last week we reported on HB2501 that required the AZDEQ to conduct a study and with
those results request that the U.S. EPA approve and exemption from emissions testing. A hearing on that matter was held on Wednesday, April 16. It was well attended and various motorcycling interests were represented by ABATE,
AMA and others. According to AZDEQ personnel who were present at the meeting and discussed this matter, Arizona
motorcyclists may be the last vestiges of emissions testing in the nation. Apparently all of 49 states have removed emissions testing or have initiatives in
place to remove emissions testing. Click Here for the rest of the report.
As for me this weekend, I am going to stay home and catch up on some of Mrs. C's real estate enhancement projects that have taken a back seat to the 2 wheeler lately. For those of you leaving town, ride safe and keep the shiny side up.
Until Next Week
Blessings and Safe Riding To All,
Barry Caraway
