Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
3/8/06

Greetings Riders,

Well, we are now at 142 days without rain in Phoenix and have enjoyed a beautiful riding Spring, but that might be coming to an end this weekend. The under worked weather forecasters in our area are now giving us the best chance of rain at 60% for this Saturday. But hopefully, for the sake of the events this weekend, that will be pushed out till Monday.

As for me the past couple of weeks, my focus has been on the Hearts To Heroes Ride that is coming up 2 weeks from Saturday on March 25th. Things are really getting exciting as I start putting into motion the details of the event. After a few hours work today putting together the video presentations that will be shown inside the Church and finalizing the T-Shirt design, I am really getting excited to see this thing come to life and give everyone an opportunity to show your support for the troops who right now need it more than ever.

As you know, the Cyclerides.com Hearts to Heroes Ride is to support Packages From Home. PFH sends needed goods to our Soldiers all over the world, but primarily in Iraq and Afghanistan. Last month, Packages From Home was chosen as one of the top 5 troop support organizations in the United States and Kathleen Lewis, the founder of PFH, has been invited to the White House to meet with President Bush on March 10th. This is a very big honor and makes me proud to be associated with this organization.

The format of the ride will be similar to last year. We will start at Christ's Church of the Valley, more commonly known as CCV located at 67th Ave. and Happy Valley Rd. This building seats over 3000 people and I hope to use them all. As we did last year, we ask that you bring some of the needed goods that are listed on this page and a $10 donation that will be used for postage to send the packages. 100% of the proceeds go to PFH. They say DVD movies are the most popular item right now. Registration will begin at 8am with coffee, doughnuts and water provided by CCV. The program inside the Church will begin at 10am. T-Shirts will also be available this year at a cost of $10 per shirt. There will only be 2000 shirts available, so if you want one, you should get there early. They are very patriotic. Here is what the front and back will look like.

The program inside the Church this year will be a little different as well. We will have Patriotic videos running continuously from 8am till the time the program starts at 10am. You will not want to miss the opening introductory video that we have made for this event at 10am. This year we have gotten Erin, an up and coming country music recording star to sing the National Anthem as well as another song. She recently sang the National Anthem at the Insight Bowl in Bank One Ball Park and at the Phoenix Suns game. She also just opened for George Jones and is going to perform at the Country Thunder music festival. Erin is being pursued by many record companies for her CD. We will be able to say we knew her when. It should be a real treat.

We also have child stars Jonnie and Brookie returning this year. At last year's event they received a standing ovation for their rendition of "American Tears". It is very special. This year there will be a short Q & A session with 2 Soldiers and a Colonel that have just returned from Iraq. Hopefully we can get a first hand perspective of what it is like to be a Soldier in Iraq. There will also be a tribute to six WW2 Veterans that will be in attendance along with a video tribute to all Veterans. This will all be mixed with video tributes on the two 20 foot screens throughout the program.

We will then be escorted by Sheriff Joe and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office to the football stadium at Glendale Community College where we will have speakers, music, a flyover of vintage military aircraft and 6 skydivers that will jump into the stadium each carrying a flag of a different branch of service followed by the American Flag. Should be a fun time.

I would encourage everyone to attend this very special event and bring a friend. If you were there last time, you know what I mean and you will not be disappointed by this year's program. I ask that everyone who rides in this would attach a flag to their bike to show your support for these troops that are in harm's way and fighting to keep terrorism out of our homeland. These are awesome Men and Women and they will see what we are doing for them.

I have told you before, that doing things like this for children and our U.S. Troops are 2 areas that really get to me. Being as transparent as ever, I have to admit that going through all of this text, video and pictures to prepare for this event has already been an emotional experience for me. I hope on the morning of March 25th, I can be as strong as those men and women are for us. But I will tell you right now, it won't be easy. If you were there last year, you will know what I mean. I thank you in advance for your participation.
