Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,
If the amount of bikes out last Saturday was any indication, prime riding season is officially here. There were tons of bikes on this absolutely gorgeous 80 degree day everywhere you went. (Sorry to rub this in for the readers back East) I know I couldn't wait to tack on a couple hundred miles. Our destination of choice was one of my two 5 spoke day rides on, Tortilla Flat. Click Here for a couple of great sample pictures. I will be back next week with photos and story.
Unfortunately, with a lot more riders on the road, comes more accidents. I personally heard of 6 downed riders and the hospitals reported more. Jim Smith of the East Valley and his wife Amy and Ed Pierce collided and went down around Globe. They are all still in the hospital. Brian Hansen, Scot Hastings and Stephanie Ramsey I think from the Tucson area were behind a semi truck that blew out a tire. Flying rubber from the tire caused two bikes to go down. Brian is still in the hospital, others released. The reason I bring this up is that we are all going to be piling on a lot of miles over the next few months and we need to be alert, careful and expect the unexpected. Just a little wake up call. Ride Safe!
Another event coming up in the next few weeks that will be bringing a lot of bikes out of the garages and into to town is the 12th Annual Arizona Bike Week that will take place from Friday, March 28 - Sunday, April 6th. The Pre-Rally Days start on March 27th with the Miss ABW Pageant to be held at the Venue in Scottsdale and continuing on through April 1st with big dealership parties and charity rides. On Wednesday ABW Cyclefest opens at Westworld in Scottsdale for 5 days of Vendors, Concerts, Factory Demo Rides and other events in the Handlebar Saloon.
Arizona Bike Week, now in the 12th year of existence has been a work in progress for the past 11 years. We have all seen the ups and downs in this event over that period of time. But since the new owners took over a couple of years ago they seem determined to take this event to the next level and this might be the breakout year for ABW. They are continually trying to enhance the quality of the event as well as bringing in different types of activities than we have seen before. Last year Harley-Davidson factory demo truck made this an official rally stop as well as Kawasaki, Star, Victory, Boss Hoss and Can Am Spyder. They will all be back again this year with demo rides. ABW is also AMA sanctioned this year as a Signature Event in the Premier Riding Series one of only 10 nationwide. Arizona Bike Week will never be a Sturgis or Daytona Bike Week, we just don't have the central cruising location for that, but it appears they are working on making it a quality event that will once again become a rider destination. I personally am looking forward to seeing how this all comes together this year.
There is no way for me to list every single event in the newsletter, so I am just going to point out some of the things I think are noteworthy or interesting to me. All details you can find on the ABW Web Site as well as some of the major events on the Rides and Events calendar.
One major move of ABW is that the AHDRA Races is back on the first weekend but at a new location in the Northwest Valley at Speedworld in Wittmann approximately 7 miles North of Bell Rd. on U.S. 60. For those of you on the East side you can catch the Chandler HD Ride to the races on Saturday, 3/29.
Big Parties:
As always there will be the well attended dealership parties that are always well attended.

It will start with the Hacienda Kickstart Party on Friday from 5-11pm.

Buddy Stubbs Bike Week Bash 11am - 9pm featuring Mogollon at 1:30pm and TNT at 5pm,

The Superstition HD Open House Party 11am - 8pm featuring Music all day long.

3rd Annual Bike Week party at Western Trails Ranch from 11am - 2pm featuring music and activities all day long rounding out the day with Freebird, the Ultimate Lynyard Skynyrd Experience band.
Trifecta Custom Bike Show at the Steel Horse Saloon.
Charity rides that are too numerous to list are all on the ABW web site. But one ride that we do every year that was made famous last year with the snow in Strawberry (See Video) is the Wednesday Ride for Kids at Buddy Stubbs HD. This year the route has changed and will be going through Wickenburg and Prescott. The Mesa Firefighters Poker Run and the Arizona Highway Patrol R.A.I.D. Ride are interesting looking rides on Friday.
Some New Highlights:

*A new entry to ABW that could well be entertaining is the All Girls Roller Derby featuring the Arizona Bruisers at 4pm on Friday and Saturday at Westworld.

*Friday through Sunday April 4-6 you will find Interactive Dirt Bike Rides presented by Team AZ and Skills Test and Demonstration arena at Westworld. Event attendees will compete on their own bikes for prizes in a variety of low speed coned obstacle courses and events. Saturday,

*April 5th is the Peoples Choice Bike Show presented by Hot Bike and Hot Bike Baggers magazines.
*April 5th is the always well attended
PYO Bash at Paul Yaffe's shop in Phoenix. Now an official ABW event.
*Valley of the Sun Strongman Classic on 4/6 is also a new entry to the event.
The Handlebar Saloon, host to nightly concerts will feature the following acts this year:
Wednesday, April 2nd - Molly Hatchet presented by Buddy Stubbs H-D
The ABW Hero Award is presented to Charity Stewart in memory of her father "Waldo".
Thursday, April 3rd - Bret Michaels presented by Hacienda H-D
Friday, April 4th - Kansas presented by Superstition H-D
Kenny Price founder of Samson exhaust receives the Tribute to Excellence Award
Saturday, April 5th - Grand Funk Railroad presented by Chester's H-D
Sunday, April 6th -
Mogollon presented by Logan's Valley Motorcycles bringing it all to an end.
I would suggest going to the Arizona Bike Week site and see all of what is available for you to do. There are several new charity rides, events, demo rides, concerts, etc. to keep you busy this year. I have just given you a few that look interesting to me. I look forward to seeing you there.

Most people think Paul Yaffe Originals only builds $100,000 motorcycles. That is still the case, but he is also expanding his business to Bagger Customization as well as Service on your Harley or V-Twin. I just did a chrome exchange on the front wheel of my Road Glide See Picture and was very impressed with the squeaky clean shop and personal service that I got from Paul's employees. It was a very pleasant experience. To kick off this service business and to prove their exceptional customer service, Paul is opening his newly remodeled shop on Saturday's for a Get In Get Out Oil Change Special from 9am-2pm. Cost is $49.95 + Tax & EPA Fee.  Special Includes: Genuine H-D oil & oil filters, Up to 4 qt. oil, black or chrome oil filter and +10 Point Safety Inspection. Synthetic oil available at an additional charge. Stop by and see the new displays of parts for your 2008 and older motorcycles, chrome exchanges possibilities, or just stop by to say hi and talk with Paul about some customization for your bike. 1st 3 Oil Changes Get a Free T-Shirt Saturday Only.
