Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
3/26/08

Greetings Riders,

Well, the official start of Arizona Bike Week is now only hours away and those of us here in town will soon be seeing a big increase in motorcycle traffic throughout the area. For those of you reading this in the Midwest and Northeast U.S., I will apologize in advance for this next line, but it is predicted to be a nice Chamber of Commerce like sunny and 85 degrees for the next 15 days. That is what I call perfect motorcycle riding weather. Even Prescott is predicted to be 61 degrees when we go through there for the Wednesday Ride on April 2nd. A heck of a lot better than the 32 degrees and snow that we saw in Strawberry last year.

The next 2 weeks of editorial is going to be brief and mostly about ABW because I am working non-stop on programming the Cyclerides.com Hearts To Heroes Event for April 12th. Since this is going to be my last one, I really want it to be the best event it can be. I do want to let you know that I talked to both Sgt. Ryan Kenner and Sr. Airman Thomas O'Neil this week and they are very excited about being a part of the event live on stage this year. For those of you that didn't attend the event last year, these are two of the guys that we talked with via satellite in Baghdad last year, that are now home and will be here with us. It was very humbling for me to hear their voices and knowing that they have made it home safely. I can't wait to meet them and shake their hand. We will be shooting some video with them this week and editing some of last year's footage to formerly introduce them to the crowd. I am working on many other facets to this event that will make it another memorable experience.

Please mark Saturday, April 12th on your calendar for this year's Cyclerides.com Hearts To HeroesThis is a great opportunity for you to personally welcome these guys back home, show your support and honor our troops for the job they are doing on our behalf. It is one ride that you do not want to miss. Click Here to view and print out the flyer. Share it with all of your riding buddies and groups. Let's fill up CCV with 3000 motorcycle riders this year!

Since this is the beginning of Bike Week there are 2 things that I want to bring to your attention. With all of the snow birds in town for Spring Training and the influx of motorcycles, it is likely to "ruffle a few feathers" if you know what I mean. It is bad enough to ride around town, but when you get a bunch of out of state drivers gawking at the bikes, it can make for a more dangerous time of navigating the large American cars that are heading to the ball parks. This is where I take license to act like your parents, be extremely careful when riding around the Valley. Take it very easy and more deliberate than you normally would and don't assume that these cars on the side streets are seeing you. It will be a shock to some drivers in the area. I want everyone to be especially safe this week.

The second thing is that along with the snowbirds and baseball fans, there will also be a few bad guys coming into town that will want your bike as much as you do. Motorcycle thefts go up drastically during bike week as it does with any other major biking event in the United States. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why. So make sure that your bike is locked up the best it can be, have it insured for full value for theft or total loss. I actually have a rider on my bikes that cover additional chrome, etc. at a stated value, over and above the market value of the bike. This is where most people end up with a loss even if they have theft insurance, because generally add ons are not covered.

Most bikes are just picked up by 4 guys and carried away. If someone wants it bad enough, they are going to get it, but one thing I have done for my own piece of mind is installed the siren to the alarm system. Most bikes these days come with alarm systems on them. At least on a Harley, you can add the siren to the system for about $80 and about an hour labor. So if someone is brave enough to carry the bike away screaming like a stuck pig, then they can have it. But most of the time, thieves go for the path of least resistance. With the siren attached, when the bike is moved a little it will chirp which might make them move on to the next easier opportunity.

Extras

Paul tells me that he is really enjoying the riders that are showing up at his shop during the new Saturday hours at PYO. He is having fun introducing those new customers to his bagger customization and PYO's expert service on their bikes. Most people think Paul Yaffe Originals only builds $100,000 motorcycles. That is still the case, but he is also expanding his business to Bagger Customization as well as Service on your Harley or V-Twin. I just did a chrome exchange on the front wheel of my Road Glide See Picture and am now getting the back wheel chromed and was very impressed with the squeaky clean shop and personal service that I got from Paul's employees. It was a very pleasant experience. To kick off this service business and to prove their exceptional customer service, Paul is opening his newly remodeled shop on Saturday's for a Get In Get Out Oil Change Special from 9am-2pm. Cost is $49.95 + Tax & EPA Fee.  Special Includes: Genuine H-D oil & oil filters, Up to 4 qt. oil, black or chrome oil filter and +10 Point Safety Inspection. Synthetic oil available at an additional charge. Stop by and see the new displays of parts for your 2008 and older motorcycles, chrome exchanges possibilities, or just stop by to say hi and talk with Paul about some customization for your bike. 1st 3 Oil Changes Get a Free T-Shirt Saturday Only.

This is another creative commercial from Fed Ex. These ad guys have a great sense of humor. Click Here to View.

Here is a hilarious video shot from the dash of a police car. This could be titled "The one that got away". Very humorous, but beware of some bad language on the video by the police officer. Click Here to View

Now that you have laughed a couple of times, here is a video that will completely tick you off if you care at all about the future of this country. I STILL cannot believe this is happening. Political correctness is OUT OF CONTROL. We should all be ashamed and embarrassed to allow this to happen to our own people and something needs to be done to correct it.
See for yourself.
