Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
3/1/05
Greetings Riders,
The letter is coming to you earlier this week so that everyone will have all the information
on the Cyclerides.com
"Hearts To Heroes" Ride on March 5th in order to make plans to
attend.
Hearts to Heroes is quickly becoming one of the most satisfying and gratifying
rides I have ever been a part of. What we will be doing on March 5th
for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan is immeasurable. If you have ever thought you were having a tough day, just
take a look at
these pictures. The needed goods that you will be bringing
and money that you will be donating for postage to send these packages, will be the highlight of a day for
a Soldier that you don't even know. But the note that you add with it, thanking him or her for their service might
make a life long friend for you. I have been told that getting anything from home, be it goods or just a letter
saying that we appreciate their service is very important for moral. Congressman
Trent Franks puts it perfectly. Please watch this one minute video.
This is more than just a ride, it is an event. We have never had a facility like CCV open their
doors as they have for a motorcycle event. The Pastor and the staff
are doing everything they can to make this a wonderful experience. This building holds 3500 people and we will
have full use of all of their multimedia capabilities. What started out as a short video looping inside has now
turned in to a full 30 minute Patriotic presentation that will be a breath of fresh air for everyone who attends.
A time for all of us to show our support to those that are thousands of miles away taking out a year or more of
their lives for you and me. This entire event will be put on DVD and sent to the troops with their packages.
The following is the itinerary of the day:
* Sign in will begin at 8am at Christ's Church of the Valley, 67th Ave. and Happy Valley Rd. Map.
* You will enter through a row of 27 U.S. Flags on 10' poles as you check in. Flags will also be placed around the campus.
* Please have a small flag attached to your bike if possible.
* CCV will provide water, coffee and pastries.
* There will be a video looping inside the Church for you to view from 8am
- 10am.
At 10am we will start the program inside.
* There will be the presentation of colors by the Marine Corp. Color
Guard from Camp Pendleton.
* Followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Children.
* Then there will be the singing of the National Anthem and America The
Beautiful by Pamela Croteagh from the Voices of Phoenix.
* 9 and 12 year old singers Jonnie
and Brookie will take the stage with two Patriotic songs.
You won't want to miss this.
* Mike Broomhead will share the experience of his brother that
was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq.
* Next we will ask all of the Veterans in the crowd to stand up and be recognized for a Video Tribute.
* Followed by a closing prayer by Pastor Don Wilson of CCV.
We will then go to our bikes for the 11:00 am departure of our 15 mile ride to the Anthem Community park led by Congressman Trent Franks on a motorcycle
and escorted by the Maricopa County Sheriff Department.
Upon arriving, there will be a full stage and live music by Doc and Gal.
* At 12:30pm we will have the presentation of colors by the Marine Corp
Color Guard.
* We will then hear "The Star Spangled Banner" played by famous trumpeter Jesse McGuire. You might
remember Jesse from the 2001 World Series Game when he played the National Anthem in Game 7.
* We will then hear words by Congressmen Trent Franks and J.D. Hayworth who will share their experiences of their
trips to Iraq.
* Jonnie and Brookie will sing another song.
* We will also hear from Soldiers who have just returned from Iraq and Afghanistan that will tell us
of their experiences and how important your packages are to them.
* The day will close with Jesse
McGuire playing "God Bless The USA" and "Amazing
Grace".
* I also have a couple of other surprises that I will let you in on when you get there.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at Anthem.
What to Bring:
* $10 Per Bike donation to Packages From Home for postage.
* One bag of needed items.
* A letter or card to a Soldier thanking them for their service.
Needed Items:
We are asking that you bring a bag of needed goods and $10 per bike
donation for postage to send these goods for Packages From Home. Some of the favorite items requested by the troops
are: Food items from home are very popular such as beef jerky, foods such as cookies, chips, pretzels, candies, sweets, etc.
Old motorcycle or car magazines, books, VHS movies, DVD's, CD's portable CD players, cards, games and AA
batteries. Anything that can help pass the time. Personal hygiene items and lotions are also important. Click here for a full
list of needed goods. There will be an 18 wheel truck
on site to collect your donations.
I think this is going to be a fantastic event and one that we will remember for
a long time. The weather is supposed to be 80 degrees and sunny so it
should be an excellent day to get out and ride to support our Troops and
Packages From Home. After the ride you can go to Wild Willy's in Cave Creek. They
will continue the giving as they will donate 25% of all food and beverage sold
from 2pm - 5pm to Packages From Home.
