Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines! That is what we heard President Bush say at the Daytona 500 last week. Those same words can apply tonight for riders wanting to participate in this year's new and improved Arizona Bike Week. The preliminary contests for the woman who will be crowned this year's Miss Arizona Bikeweek begins tonight at 7:00 pm at Margarita Rocks at 4th St. and Mill in Tempe. This year 8 locations will host preliminary rounds with 2 winners emerging from each location. After making it through the preliminaries, 16 contestants will be invited to the semi-finals at the Hacienda Harley-Davidson KickStart Party on Friday, March 26. After the KickStart Party, the top ten finalists will be swept away via limo to Rawhide in Scottsdale for the Final Competition to take place during the Fat Friday Cajun Party at the Handlebar Saloon celebrating the opening of Arizona Bike Week 2004! The winner will receive $1,000 in cash and two first class round trip tickets complements of America West Airlines to any destination within the continental US. Plan on taking advantage of the warm weather tonight to kick this off. Click Here for the full schedule and check back every week for pictures of the winners. At the end of the contest you will be able to vote online at Cyclerides.com for your favorite contestant.
As most of you know, Arizona Bike Week will be held from March 26th-April 4th. But this year things have changed. In case you haven't heard, Arizona Bike Week has gone through a major reconstruction this year. In the last couple of years, there has been a lack of a cohesive location for everyone to cruise through and hang out with their bikes. Part of the problem was that the Phoenix area does not have a location that would be host to that kind of an event. So if it is not available, you have to build it and that is what is being done with Arizona Bike Week this year. Rawhide is going to be the new home for Arizona Bike Week and the Handlebar Saloon. ABW is going to create their own town made up of vendors, restaurants and bars. You will be able to cruise down a long "Main Street" similar to Sturgis, park your bikes on both sides and down the middle, walk around, eat, drink and watch the action go by. YOUR motorcycles will now be a part of the venue all throughout the vendor village. Now that should be fun!
Along with the new venue there will also be new activities. In addition to all of the scenic rides and parties there will also be 2 concerts with classic national bands. Molly Hatchet will perform in the Handlebar Saloon on Sunday, March 28th and an old favorite of mine, Little River Band will perform on Wednesday, March 31st. That should be a good one. You can buy both concerts early for the discounted price of $20. Call 480-704-1142 to order. In addition to that there will be Pro/Am Flat Track Racing as well as Biker Bull Riding. Yes, these will be "Real Bikers" on "Real Bulls". This could be the most exciting 8 seconds of your life, and could easily be the most entertaining event for those of us that are watching you.
And finally, Arizona Bike Week will be a part of a Discovery Channel documentary. On Saturday April 3rd, Discovery Channel will be at the Handlebar Saloon to film the finale of the latest in their popular "Great Biker Buildoff Series". The fun thing is, your vote will determine who wins the "Buildoff". In this series the contestants are the Martin Brothers of Duncanville, Texas and Matt Hotch of Hot Match Custom Cycles. These are two very hot builders of custom motorcycles. The show is scheduled to air in June. I will bring you more details soon.
There are plenty of activities this year and more are being added daily. This has all the potential be the best Arizona Bike Week we have seen thus far. Go to www.arizonabikeweek.com for all of the ABW events or www.cyclerides.com for information on all rides and events during the next 8 weeks. We will be there with camera and video in hand to bring you all of the action that we can. See you there.
