Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
1/28/09

Greetings Riders,

First of all, I would like to thank all of you that sent emails of concerns, encouragement and prayers. Mrs. C. and I were both overwhelmed by the amount of response from the Cyclerides.com family. In fact, I was still replying as late as today. If you missed last week's letter, Click Here. I would like to report that Tammy (Mrs. C.) is recovering extremely well with a few bruises and some aches and pains. She was very fortunate as the outcome could have been much worse. The girl had insurance, so the bike is in for repair and we are hoping to get it back as soon as possible so that she can get back on the road. Thanks again for all of the well wishes, they were very encouraging and uplifting.

It is always nice when local media does positive segments on motorcycling. If you missed the live broadcast last Wednesday, TV 3 did an excellent piece on riding in Arizona. I provided the interview and the photos. They did the rest. The segment features 2 routes. Flagstaff to Sedona and Kingman to Oatman. Watch this 2:45 spot and then send the link to your friends back East. Click Here to View. Or view it from the front page of www.cyclerides.com .

I am always looking for ways to get riders together to socialize, swap ride stories and meet new friends. Bike nights are a good way to do that. It gets you out of the house for a short ride, but there are not a lot of ways to interact. So with that in mind, I have decided to start a Wii Bowling tournament at the Sandbar Mexican Grill Bike Night on the West side. For those of you that do not know, the Wii is an electronic game by Nintendo that has been taking the world by storm over the last year. It is played by holding a wand in your hand and making the exact movement that you would make in whatever sport you are playing on the screen. In this case, with bowling you would see the lane on the screen and simulate rolling the ball just as you would with a real bowling ball, complete with spin and all. It is one of the most realistic games you will play and great fun that will generate smack talking by the 3rd frame.

This game is an real hoot and will get everyone involved. The Sandbar has a 7 foot screen that we will utilize for the Wii Bowling. It will be set up as a single elimination tournament each Bike Night with the top 2 winning prizes each night. The winners will all be carried forward and will have a playoff during Arizona Bike Week. Location to be determined. I am also working with Chester's Harley-Davidson to implement the same thing at their Bike Night at Dos Gringos on the East side. If that develops, we will have an East Vs. West for the finals. Anyone can play, you don't have to have any special skills. Just have fun and win some prizes. My 84 year old Dad loves this game. Here is a picture of a Wii screen shot. Click Here to View.

The Cyclerides.com Wii Bowling Tournament at the Sandbar, located at 9868 W. Northern will start on Wednesday, February 11th at 6pm and run for 6 weeks with the finals during AZ Bike Week. Sign up when you get there. It takes about 20 minutes to complete a game with 4 people playing. If you have never played, don't worry, it only takes a minute to get you going.

Please stop by to check it out. It is great fun! Click Here for information about the Sandbar.

And speaking of things to do, this week I would also like to remind you about the upcoming Arizona Bike Week that is now just a few weeks away and will be taking place from March 27th - April 5th. Today I am just going to give you some of the highlights that I thought would be interesting. There are many more activities that you can find at www.arizonabikeweek.com .

Pre-Rally Days on Friday, March 27th will kick off with Chester's Harley-Davidson Back Stage Biker Bash featuring a huge concert and party with Mogollon opening for the Charlie Daniels Band. This should be a great party and concert to kick off bike week.

Saturday, March 28th features the 5th Annual Buddy Stubbs Bike Week Bash. 13,000 riders joined the fun last year. There will be Food, Live Music and Vendors. Admission is free. If you would like to be a vendor at either of the above parties, contact Chester's HD at 480-894-0404 or Buddy Stubbs HD at 602-971-3400.

Sunday - Trifecta Custom Bike Show at the Steel Horse.

Monday, March 29th - Chandler HD Sunshine Acres Ride to Tortilla Flat. Always a good ride.

Tuesday - Downtown Scottsdale Party at the Billet Bar.

Wednesday Buddy Stubbs Wednesday Ride for Kids. One of my favorite and one of the biggest rides of the week that will take you on a 234 mile ride throughout Arizona ending at Cyclefest.

Cyclefest at Westworld begins with The Gin Blossoms in the Handlebar Saloon.

Thursday - Blackfoot in Concert in the Handlebar Saloon among other activities.

Friday - Factory Demo Rides at Westworld, Firefighters Ride and Eddie Money in Concert at the Handlebar.

Saturday - Chester's Torch Ride and Cheap Trick in Concert at the Handlebar among many other activities.

Sunday - Logan's Run with Mogollon closing out AZ Bikeweek in the Handlebar Saloon.

These are just a few of the highlights to get you going. I will go over more details as they come to me in the next few weeks. Find out all the details at www.arizonabikeweek.com .

FYI, Many have emailed and asked if I was going to do my Hearts To Heroes ride again this year. The answer is no. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the event but I thought it was time to look toward our troops coming home. If we have a troop deployment home, I would be interested in doing a big event to show our appreciation by throwing them a welcome home party.

However, there is a ride using the name of "Hearts To Heroes" during bike week. So that no one is mistaken, I want to make it clear that THIS IS NOT MY RIDE, nor do I have anything to do with the organization or implementation of this ride.

A couple of weeks ago I gave you the inspirational video called "Stand By Me". This week I've got another one that is fantastic called "Born Again American". Ironically, it is directed by the same guy and uses musicians and singers from all over the United States. This will give you a nice shot of Patriotism. This is an EXCELLENT song and video. Click Here to View.

Ever wonder what to do if you didn't have drawer locks with a child in the house? These parents found another way. It just might cost them a few biscuits now and then. Click Here to View.

Here is one of those videos that you have to question the thought and preparation that went into the event. Click Here to View.

If you like design and innovation in a motorcycle, you are going to love this one. Then you are going to spend the next half hour trying to figure out how they did it. Click Here to View.

This one will blow you away. No pun intended. I don't know how he does this so fast. He holds 18 world records. Click Here to View.

Until Next Week,
Blessings and Safe Riding To All,
