Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
Not only is Christmas right around the corner, but so are a lot of Toy Runs. As many of you know by now, Cyclerides.com, Arizona Bikeweek, Outback Productions and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office have combined efforts to bring you the 1st Annual "Toys To Kids" Motorcycle Charity Ride on December 6th. We have spent the last 3 months planning this event and now it is only 3 days away. 1500 riders have already indicated that they are attending, the weather is supposed to be 75 degrees, so we are expecting a very large crowd for this ride.
This past Monday we all met at Fountain Hills to do the final planning and walk through of the ride. Since this is my first involvement in a ride of this size, I have to admit I was getting a little excited as I was standing on the Avenue of the Fountains with the fountain spraying 200 feet in the air, imagining the street filled with motorcycles with toys on them, and knowing that there would be 200 needy kids waiting for us to deliver these gifts to them. It is really exciting to be a part of this and should be a great day for everyone who participates.
Here is a recap of what will happen that day. At 10:00am the Sheriff's Office will bring the kids to Rawhide. At this point they will have the town to themselves to participate in all the activities at Rawhide including the Petting Zoo, Games, Train Rides and other activities. At 11:30 they will be brought to the Pavilion where we will feed them and prepare for your arrival. We have two 60" Big Screen TV's on the stage that have been donated for the day by a rider that is the GM at Best Buy on Camelback. The kids will be watching videos as they wait for us.
Registration begins at 8:00am in Fountain Hills. At 10:15am Santa and his Elf will be brought in by helicopter to Fountain Hills to hand out candy canes to the riders and prepare for the ride to Rawhide. Some of the shops will be open or you can take a leisurely walk around the lake if you arrive early. There will be a limited supply of coffee and doughnuts available. Mike's Grill on the corner is possibly opening early that morning. The ride leaves at 11:00am. This is a 30 mile ride that will take us North of Fountain Hills through Rio Verde and West on Dynamite to Pima Rd. and then into the South side of Rawhide. If you haven't ridden this route, you will be thoroughly impressed with the beauty of this area. I have done it several times and it was great to ride it again. When you arrive you will walk to the front of the stage to put your unwrapped gifts in an area for boys or girls. The kids will be there eyeing up which items they are going to pick.
You will then eat your lunch as Richard Steele performs his incredible magic act. The Singin' TV Guys with Mike Chamberlin and Chris Corragio will then take the stage for some interactive singing with the kids and the riders as he bring kids on stage to help him sing some favorite Christmas songs. The kids will then be able to pick out 3-4 gifts each with the help of Santa's Helpers. We will need to be vacated from Rawhide by 3:30pm due to an event that night.
The focus of Christmas gifts is all about the kids. With your help and support, this will be a time that these kids will remember for a lifetime. 100% of the proceeds will be given to the charities named by the organizers. Cyclerides.com portion will be given to Hospice Of The Valley in the name of my Mother and My Nephew Marcus who passed away from cancer and received incredible care from Hospice. Hopefully this time will be a blessing for you to be able to give and a blessing for the kids to receive gifts that they might not otherwise be able to have. We look forward to seeing you there.
