Cyclerides.com Weekly
Update
12/21/11
Greetings Riders,
Well, it is now 3 days till Christmas, guess I’d better start
getting serious about some shopping. Thank goodness for Amazon and
their free overnight shipping deals to bail me out once again. The year has once
again flown by. They say the older you get the faster time seems to go. I can’t
imagine it clipping by much faster.
I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas from Mrs. C.
and I. We hope you a have a blessed holiday time this year and take
a few minutes out to remember why we celebrate Christmas.
This is the time of year that I try to slow my pace down a bit,
visit some friends, relax and recharge the batteries for another
year of fun events. An event coming up in February which I have been working on
for the last several months that is now officially in high gear is the Arizona Centennial
Ride. You can see my article about the
Centennial from February and
October. As I mentioned then, it
is still amazing to me that the mascot for the entire Centennial is a motorcycle
and the culminating high profile event will be the Arizona Centennial Motorcycle
Ride led by the Copper Chopper and Dierks Bentley.
As a member of the Ride committee, my
task is to facilitate and help organize the actual ride part of the
event. There have been many meetings with the DPS, Phoenix Police, City
officials of both Mesa and Phoenix, as well as Mesa Riverview where the ride
will begin. It has been a lot of fun working on a ride of this magnitude as
there are a lot of moving parts and such an important event for the State. Since
this is a “Once is a Lifetime” ride to commemorate the Arizona Centennial, it
will likely be one of the biggest this State has ever seen.
Since I am supposed to be in my “throttle down” mode right now,
I will save the story for an upcoming newsletter, but I did want to
get the basic details and date out there now so that you could plan for it. The
ride will take place on Saturday, February 11th, 2012. It will begin at Mesa
Riverview located at the Loop 202 and Dobson Road in Mesa, AZ and go to the
Capitol. We will have a Live Band in the street like we do at the Cyclerides.com
Bike Night along with food and drink which will be available at Cactus Moon and
Matta’s as well as a huge food and beer garden in the roundabout.
This will be a DPS escorted ceremonial ride of approximately 15
miles that will take us West on the Loop 202 to I-10 through
downtown Phoenix past Chase Field and West on Jefferson to the Capitol where we
will end at the Centennial Best Fest featuring a performance by Dierks Bentley.
This will absolutely put a rumble in Downtown Phoenix like they have never heard
before. I can’t wait.
The cost for the ride will be $25 per person that will include
participation in the ride,
a commemorative t-shirt, ride pin and
one (1) ticket for the drawing to win the AZ Copper Chopper. The t-shirt and
ride pin will be in limited quantity so you will want to pre-register to
guarantee that you get these collectible items. Once they are gone that is it.
There will be a very cool patch that will be available to purchase at
registration. I will have a picture of that in a couple of weeks. Click the
following link for a picture of the shirt design that I took with my cell phone
at a meeting today. This will be shirt back.
You can register on line to make sure that you get your items
that will be picked up the day of the ride.
This would make a perfect stocking stuffer or Christmas gift for
the rider in your family. CLICK
HERE for more information and to register
online. You could put the receipt you print out into the stocking. This will be
a huge one day motorcycle event that will be high energy, lots of bikes and a
once in a lifetime opportunity to ring in 100 years of Statehood for the 48th
State in the nation. I’m excited already! See you there.
