Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
11/29/06

Greetings Riders,

The last month of 2006 is right around the corner which means there are only 25 shopping days till Christmas. So guys and gals, it's time to start leaving that chrome and motorclothes wish list laying around where your significant other can find it and maybe they will "get the hint". I'm hoping Mrs. C. has noticed the 2006 HD catalog laying on the driver seat of her car every morning with the 17 "post it notes" sticking out of it. I was going to make it obvious, but decided to do it this way instead.

Most of you know by now that this Saturday is the Cyclerides.com Toys To Kids Ride to Santa's. If you missed last week's newsletter about the ride and the homeless kids that are coming from Pappas Schools, Click Here to read. For today, I am just going to give you the 5 W's and some of what you can expect.

The details are all coming together and it is going to be a fun event.

Who: Everyone is invited to participate.
What: The Cyclerides.com Toys To Kids Ride
Where: Steele Indian School Park located at 3rd St. and Indian School. Enter from Indian School Rd.
Why: To bring your toys to 160 homeless children from T.J. Pappas Schools.
When: Saturday, December 2nd.
Time: Line up starting at 8:00am. Rides leaves at 11:00am escorted by DPS.
Route: South on 3rd St. to I-10. I-10 to the Wildhorse Pass Exit to Santa's at Firebird Raceway.
Destination: Santa's Christmas Theme Park at Firebird Raceway, Wildhorse Pass & I-10.
EntertainmentThe Comedy Safari Show with Parrots and Macaws, Jugglers, Music by Elvis, and a special performance by the kids.
Food: Coffee, doughnuts and water will be available at the start of the ride. Food at Santa's will be available for purchase.
What to bring: New unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 6-12 years old. You will place them in the appropriate pile after you park your bike and go back to the stage area.
Families: If you would like to bring your family and you can only fit one on your bike. All riders and passengers get in free. The rest of the family can meet you at Santa's and enter for 1/2 price until 1pm with This Coupon. Print it out and bring it to the gates.
Then What: Stick around and enjoy the shows and the park for as long as you want. There is a Tiger Show and a stunt show that are particularly good.

Updates:

We will be entering through the front of Santa's and riding the 1/2 mile down Main St. to the mid point of the park where we will exit and park behind the stage. The children will line the street cheering us on as we ride in with the toys. It should be an awesome experience for everyone involved. You can bring candy to throw to the kids as you ride by.

Due to bus issues, we are now bringing 160 children to the park.

To make things simple, I am trying to keep the ride at no charge to the riders and it will again be that way this year. Usually I take care of the incidental costs, but Pappas called me this week and informed me that the school did not have the $500 available to pay for the busses to bring the kids to the park. Without the kids it wouldn't be much of a ride, so I told her to order up the busses and that I would ask the riders to help them pay for it. So to defer those costs and the $500 for the Steele Park and insurance, there will be a few donation buckets around for you to donate to the event.

One thing that has really stuck with me about at the tour of the Pappas school is that when these kids enroll in the school, they give them a fresh change of clothes to get them going and help them fit in. Then, once per month they can go and get another set of clothes. What I would like to do with the money left over from donations after the expenses I mentioned above is buy clothes for the school so that we can put the money exactly where we want it to go. If everyone could just put $5 in the pot, we could really do some good and add a lot of clothing to the school. Of course, I will photograph what we buy and report back to you in the next couple of newsletters.

If you know of anyone that hasn't been on this ride, please forward this letter to them. It is a wonderful experience for anyone. I look forward to seeing all of you this Saturday. Thanks for all your help and support of this event and of Cyclerides.com
