Cyclerides.com Weekly
Update
11/30/11
Greetings Riders,
Well, the calendar turns to December tomorrow and the countdown to
Christmas begins. Can you even believe that 11 months of 2011 has
gone by already? Amazing how fast time goes the older you get. Seems like only a
few weeks ago we were all complaining that it was still 100 degrees. Wait a
minute, I think that was actually true! Everyone knew it was Fall except Mother
Nature. Now that she finally figured it out, the temps have dropped and the
calendar is changing to December, it must be time for motorcycle toy rides and
the Cyclerides.com “Toys to Kids” Event.
This Saturday, December 3rd, starting at 10:45 AM we will be hosting the
9th Annual “
Cyclerides.com
Toys to Kids” event
which will held once again at Westgate City
Center in Glendale, AZ. Since this is a “Ride-In” event, Westgate provides a
great venue to park all of the bikes, provides the staging for the event and is
easy access from all parts of the Valley at the 101 and Glendale Ave.
One of the unique aspects of the Toys To Kids event that all
riders enjoy is that we have the kids at the event so that you can enjoy seeing
and interacting with them as they enjoy what you are doing for them. We will
again be busing in 100 homeless children from the Children First
Academy from downtown Phoenix. They will
be arriving at 10:15 AM to cheer you on as you lay down your gifts in front of
the stage. Everyone in attendance will be entertained and then the kids will
each get to pick 3 gifts from the stack of toys that you bring to take home with
them. One of the toys that they pick is to give away to another child that could
not come. The kids will then be fed by Saddle Ranch. There is no cost for this
event. All we ask is that you bring at least one toy or game per person.
This year is going to be especially fun as we
have Craig Davis for entertainment. Craig is a world class magician that
combines the art of illusion, comedy and the spectacle of the circus that is
amazingly entertaining. He
is sure to entertain the kids as well as the adults. Craig specializes in
Original and Unbelievable Grand Magic Illusions, Side-Splitting Comedy, Audience
Participation, Trained Tropical Birds, Amazing Juggling and features Original, Exciting
Music. This is always a special event and should be especially entertaining this
year. Bring the whole family. Craig will start
his performance at 10:45 AM. So be sure to be there. See Photos
from last year.
Another
special treat this year is that the event is going to be filmed and will be
featured on Roy Garibaldi’s
Positive Side
which is shown weekly on TV 3 in Phoenix.
So be ready, Roy might
ask you for some comments about why you enjoy this event. My thanks to Roy for
choosing this event to share with the Valley how gracious and giving motorcycle
riders are and showing how we all feel after spending some time with these kids
to make their Christmas much better. I will post the times and dates the
Positive Side with the Toys to Kids segment will be shown.
Itinerary
of the Day:
The
morning will begin at 9 AM at Westgate City Center with Christmas music spun by
Big D’s Mobile DJ’s.
Saddle
Ranch will have available an all inclusive $9.99 per person breakfast
buffet beginning at 9 am. The kids will be arriving at 10:15 am and all will
enjoy some street entertainment as a warm up for the big show. At 10:45 am the
Toys to Kids will begin with some amazing comedy, magic and juggling from Craig
Davis. Bring the whole family to enjoy this great event. This is usually the
best day of the year for these kids and they love to see the riders and bikes.
Westgate City Center is located at Loop 101 and West Glendale Ave. in
Glendale.
As most of you know, the Cyclerides.com
Toys To Kids is the favorite event of any that I do the entire year.
To be a small part of helping these kids have a special day and to replace an
otherwise difficult life with laughter and joy for a few hours is a great
feeling and well worth the effort it takes to make it happen. The time I get to
spend with these kids and see a somber look in their eyes turn to a glow of hope
and joy is absolutely priceless. I know the weather is predicted to be a little
difficult, but I would encourage you to put on the leathers and ride in or bring
your family in the car with a toy and enjoy the show. We need to make sure there
is enough toys to go around. This could be one of the best one’s yet. Thanks
again to all for your support of this event every year. I can’t wait!
To really get a feel for the Toys To Kids Event,
watch this short video featuring the Martina McBride’s song “Do It Anyway” from
2006. The words of the song couldn’t be more appropriate for these kids and for
all of us. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as I do every year.
