frontpage350road Weekly Update
Greetings Riders,
Have you ever done, said or promised something and then about half way through it you wonder what the heck you were thinking?? That’s where I’m at right now. Weeks ago I started talking about unveiling the new bike that I have dubbed the “Mako Glide” on the last Westgate Bike Night of the season on Wednesday, November 16th. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I mean, we were 6 whole weeks out. How hard could it be to put a little paint on it and throw the parts back on? Sounds pretty easy to me. WRONG!!! Being a rookie at this bike building thing, I completely underestimated the painstaking time and effort it was going to take to make this deadline. Seems like everything we touch needs some tweaking and takes 3 times as long to install than what you think it would.
Another thing that is news to me is that gray hairs CAN actually get grayer. Just take on a custom bike project like this, set an unrealistic time to unveil it and you will see what I mean. It has been enjoyable doing some of the bolt on stuff and getting my hands dirty with my buddy Dan, but what do you do when you have run out of time, the clock is ticking and you’ve promised thousands of people that on a particular day they can see your shiny new bike themed after a 1965 Mako Shark Corvette? You take it to a professional that does this type of thing every day and can put the manpower to it. Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation shop was always going to do the final assembly, but between getting the parts needed, the seat done, and stretching out my time a little too long, I am now at the mercy of Paul and his guys to bail me out.
The bike was delivered at 7:30 this morning and they were already ganging up on it to get it done. Click Here to view. There is a lot to do and as usual, not everything goes as planned, but it is looking like they will get the bike ready to show by tomorrow night. I guess this would be a good time to apologize to Paul Yaffe for sticking him with this timeline, but I have seen his shop in action and I’m confident it will be ready for everyone to view Wednesday night at Westgate at 7:30 PM. Looks like there is going to be a few rounds for Paul and the boys on me tomorrow night after this is all over.
Beyond all of the issues of putting together a custom bike, the end result is that this bike is going to be beautiful. The paint work by Chad at C.R. Designs came out absolutely beautiful in every way and far exceeded my expectations. The red color is perfect for the Corvette theme and the fairing, which I have not fully shown publicly yet, is stunning and has a mirror finish on it. The fiberglass work by Jim Michaud is extremely creative and tastefully done. Thanks to everyone that has gone over the top to help me get this bike ready to go for Wednesday night. I cannot wait to share this project in person with all of you at 7:30 PM this Wednesday night on the last Westgate Bike Night of the season. Hope to see you there. For those of you on the East side, I will be displaying the Mako Glide in the Photo Gallery at the Mesa Riverview Bike Night on Friday for the last bike night of the season there.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Tidbits and Updates: Toys To Kids Event.
SAVE THE DATE! The Toys to Kids event will be on Saturday, December 3rd at Westgate City Center beginning at 10:45 AM. We will again be busing in 100 homeless children from the Children First Academy from downtown Phoenix. We will entertain them, feed them and then they will each get to pick 3 gifts from the stack of toys that you bring to take home with them. One of the toys that they pick is to give away to another child that could not come. There is no cost for this event. All we ask is that you bring at least one toy or game per person.
This year is going to be especially good as we have Craig Davis for entertainment. Craig is a world class magician that combines the art of illusion, comedy and the spectacle of the circus that is amazingly entertaining. He is sure to entertain the kids as well as the adults. He specializes in Original and Unbelievable Grand Magic Illusions, Side-Splitting Comedy, Audience Participation, Trained Tropical Birds, Amazing Juggling and features Original, Exciting Music. This is always a special event and should be especially entertaining this year. Bring the whole family. See Photos from last year.
We need a little help in advance with the Toys to Kids event. There are a couple of Women that have decided to make each child a stocking for the event this year. They tell me they already have 85 of them cut out to be sewn and are working on more. They have purchased the materiel to make the stockings and are looking for help getting them stuffed with travel sized shampoo, creme rinse, tooth paste, kids tooth brushes, Christmas pens, pencils, stickers, anything that can be put into a Christmas Stocking. It would be great if you could help with this generous offering to the kids. Please bring whatever you can to the Westgate Bike Night on Wednesday, November 9th and 16th. I will have a box next to my tent for you to put them in. Thanks for your help.
