Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week, Click Here to Read.
If you miss it in your email, you can always go to to read it online right after it comes out.

I have done a lot of events supporting the military and Veterans over the last 18 years with, but as I sit here writing this letter, I am having trouble putting into words how excited I am for this Veterans Day Bike Night. The joy I have gotten seeing everyone step up to help with this event including private air transportation for the Veterans to Phoenix, asking Westgate if they would line Coyote Blvd. with 16 American Flags and they promptly said yes, having the band CTS to play the event, working with Rick Cochran on the presentation, and getting the giant 20 foot THANK YOU VETERANS banner that will hang below the Welcome Riders sign, along with other details has all been absolutely fun and gratifying in every way. I will admit that this is as excited as I have been for one of these events since we did the live satellite feed to Iraq at the Hearts to Heroes event in 2005.

As I watched the video of
U.S. Navy Seaman 1st Class Ray Chavez, the oldest Pearl Harbor survivor at 105 years old, and learn more about his story, it humbles me that we will have the opportunity to meet this man and shake his hand. The fact that he survived Pearl Harbor and went back out into combat that day is a story in itself, but I would also like to know his tips for a long life! Apparently getting a physical trainer at the age of 101 has something to do with it. (See Video) I am looking forward to spending some time with him to hear his story.

We will also have
United States Army Special Forces Command Sergeant Major Ramon Rodriquez with us that night. Ramon has 3 Bronze Stars, 3 Silver Stars and 5 Purple Hearts. When I first read the story about Ramon Rodriquez I was absolutely humbled by his bravery and commitment to our country. Then I watched the movie Hacksaw Ridge last weekend and that put a big exclamation point on the bravery that our combat soldiers possess. To see real life played out in that movie was almost unbearable to watch. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I would recommend it. Desmend Doss, the subject of that movie was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary service at Hacksaw Ridge, the same medal that Ramon Rodriguez is up for now.

If you use Facebook, stay tuned tomorrow starting at about 10:15am as I will be on the private jet that will be going to Long Beach to pick up Ramon and to San Diego to pick of Ray and Kathleen. My goal is to do Live Updates along the way as we pick up these Veterans and get a few words from them on the plane. I plan to video and document the trip on Facebook and in the newsletter for next week. For the Facebook go to Like it if you are on Facebook, but even if you are not a member of Facebook, you can view the page.
I would again like to thank Ridenow Charities for funding the private air transportation that will bring these 2 men in the style they deserve from Long Beach and San Diego, CA on Thursday and return them on Sunday.

In a world that seems to be going off the skids in many ways, this will be a welcome diversion. I encourage everyone to take time this Friday night to come out to Honor Veterans, all of those that are serving in our military, enjoy a night of patriotism, and in particular, spend some time with these 2 heroes. Westgate has lined Coyote Blvd. with 16 American Flags in honor of Veterans Day. Please bring the whole family to enjoy a night of patriotic music by CTS, to honor our Veterans and the United States of America. It will be a wonderful time and I look forward to seeing you there. Get there early for best parking as there is an event that night in the arena that night. Parking will be limited in event plaza, but overflow will be plentiful. There may be intermittent closure of Coyote Blvd. later due to people on the road. You will be directed to overflow.

*Friday Night this week! Live Music with "CTS". Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District. Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District will begin our 9th Fall Season with 11 nights total on Friday, September 8th from 5pm - 9pm. Yes, you read that correct, Friday night. Due to interest in Friday nights last time and some conflict with events at the arena, we have decided to do the first 7 Bike Nights at Westgate on Friday nights. For those of you putting this in your calendars to keep track, those dates will be Friday nights from September 8th - October 20th.

Here is where it gets a little tricky. Our first idea was to do the last 4 nights on Thursday nights and that is how we were going to proceed. Then Westgate got notified of an event happening at the arena on Thursday, Nov. 9th. So we are switching that one night to Friday, November 10th when we will have a big Veteran's Day celebration at bike night. So the last 4 nights will be on Thursdays, October 26th, November 2nd and November 16th for the last night. November 10th will be on a Friday. It was unfortunate that we couldn't keep all 4 Thursdays in a row, but with all the conflicts either way, this was the best way to do it.

This is a great excuse for all to get out on the motorcycle and enjoy some cooler weather especially for evening riding. There was a lot of good feedback on Friday nights last time as a lot of people used it for a date night on the motorcycle and were able to stay out a little longer as for some it isn't a work night.

Live Music:
Friday, November 10th: "CTS"
Thursday, November 16th: "Kung Fu Grip"
