Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
10/15/03
Greetings Riders,
5000! That could be the number of calories you consumed in last night's Italian dinner, the
number of campaign promises that you have seen broken in your lifetime, the amount of times you told
your spouse that you were going out for a SHORT ride or the number of miles the kid that foiled the catch
in left field of the NLCS Game 6 is going to have to move away from Chicago. It could be any of those, but it's
not. It is the number of subscribers that have signed up for the Cyclerides.com
Weekly Update. As of today there are 5063 of you that have joined the
Cyclerides family that receive the newsletter. This month is also our 4th Year Anniversary for the site.
Through the last 4 years Cyclerides.com has grown from an idea born
out of necessity to being a pioneering vehicle to bring you activities to participate in while doing what you like
to do best. Riding a motorcycle! I
never aspired to be a writer, but that is just one more turn in the road of life that shows that I am not in control.
We have sent out 200 newsletters containing over 600,000 words, 100's of events posted, over 4000 ride photos,
13 Day Ride features, 100's of Bike Photos, Videos and countless hours devoted to keeping it fresh and coming up
with new ideas for everyone to participate in. Our goal is to be the
positive side of motorcycling. We have to deal with enough negativity,
controversy and gossip in our daily lives, you don't need to read it here. You might find an opinion or a tongue
in cheek look at some things, but only to be thought provoking, not to tear anyone down. My goal for Cyclerides.com and the newsletter is to be a positive force in the Motorcycling
Community, a place that you can log on and Virtually enjoy your passion, find out what
is going on around the State and once a week receive an upbeat look at riding and everyday life through
my eyes.
Based upon the thousands of replies and personal comments that I have gotten over the years, you have laughed, cried and just plain shaken your head over some of the stories
that I have told. I appreciate more than you will ever know, all of the comments that you deliver in person and
send my way. That is honestly what keeps me going and I try to answer all of them. If you have any riding
friends that would like to sign up for the letter, have them Click Here.
This is the time that Mrs. Cyclerides and I would like to thank every one of you that use the site and are loyal
readers of the newsletter. We have met many of you at various events
and bike nights over the last four years that we now call Friends. We appreciate your kind words and conversation
as we see you from time to time. Our goal for the future is to continue to bring you unique and interesting events
like the "Toys
To Kids" ride, more Day Rides and Special Events that
all can enjoy. Stay tuned for the event we have planned for March '04. The Cyclerides.com V.I.P. Card
is adding many new business associates for the riding season that I will bring to you next week.
There are a lot of new people moving into the Valley area and a lot of them ride motorcycles. We get about 120 new subscribers per month sign up for the newsletter. For those of you that
have missed some of the articles, or if you have been around a while, you can take a walk down memory lane to some
of my favorites from the last couple of years. I have talked about everything from "Bird Bombers", Muffin
Cups, Costco, Sunburns, How to Wave, Dumping a new bike, "Listening to that little voice" to Teaching
my daughter how to ride a motorcycle and many more. If you need to kill some time, you can Click Here to get caught up or read them again.
I would also like to thank my wife, aka Mrs. Cyclerides and Mrs. C., for being with me all the way and allowing
me the time to do what is needed to gain content for the site. It has been a lot of fun. And thanks to all of you
for your support.
"Toys To Kids" Ride Update:
Many of you saw the announcement from a couple of weeks ago about the "Toys
To Kids ride we are doing on December 6th. (Click Here for the link to that letter.) For those of you that are new to the letter I will recap. The ride is organized by
Cyclerides.com, Arizona Bike Week and Outback Productions. The ride will start in Fountain Hills on the Avenue
of the Fountains. We will then ride out the back side of Fountain Hills through Rio Verde on our way to Rawhide.
Once we reach Rawhide there will be 200 needy children that have been fed and waiting there for us to arrive. Once
the riders have delivered the toys. The children will be able to go and pick out 2-3 toys of their choice with
the aid of Santa's Helpers. The Singin' TV Guys featuring Mike Chamberlin from TV3 and Chris Coragio from Channel
5 will be there to entertain the Children and the Riders with Christmas songs and audience participation. The cost
of the ride is $10 and 1 new toy per person. This will include a Ride Pin and a Full Lunch at Rawhide. Click
Here for the ride flyer.
We have just added more entertainment for the kids and the riders. The Indestructible Magic of Richard Steele will
perform. Richard, famous for his amazing illusions and magic with
tigers, recently won the People's Choice Award for Stage Magician of the Year. He is known for his innovative
illusions including the Sword Box, Twisted, Substitution Trunk and the Head Guillotine. The show is full of comedy
and audience participation that the kids as well as the adults will be amazed by. You won't want to miss him.

Extras
I just wanted to point out the strides that Full Throttle Magazine has made over the last year. I recently picked up the recent issue to find full color print, glossy pages, interesting
content and full of information. I was impressed. The front cover particularly caught my eye as a cool graphic.
If you haven't seen Full Throttle lately, stop by most any motorcycle dealership and pick one up.
Since the Cubs are the talk of the sports world right now, I thought I would share 10 reasons why you should root for them to go to the World
Series. To give you a feel for how futile the Cubs have been, here are 10 events that have occurred since the Chicago Cubs last won a World Series.
1. Radio was invented...Cubs fans got to hear their team lose.
2. TV was invented...Cubs fans got to see their team lose.
3. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th and 100th birthdays.
4. Haley's comet passed Earth... TWICE.
5. Man landed on the moon...as have several home runs given up by Cubs pitchers.
6. Sixteen US presidents were elected.
7. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown; several thanked Cubs pitchers.
8. Bell-bottoms came in style and went out...and came back in.
9. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma and New Mexico were added to the Union.
10. Flag poles were erected on Wrigley Field's roof to hold all of the team's future World Series
pennants. Those flag poles have since rusted and been taken down.
As for me this weekend, I will be heading over to the Biketoberfest and Butkus on Saturday
and then possibly the Foothills Stampede on Sunday.
Until Next Week,
Blessings and Safe Riding To All,
Barry Caraway
