Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week entitled "Time For a Change", Click Here to Read.

I always like to see what is going on at other motorcycle events just in case there are some ideas that we could use here in AZ for Phoenix Bikefest. This past weekend we went up to Las Vegas on Saturday to get a quick look at the Las Vegas Bikefest. We got to the event at around Noon and walked the vendors off Freemont St. first and then down to the main vendor area. I'm not sure whether it was the mood in Las Vegas one week after the shootings or the lack of Big name vendors, but there seemed to be a lack of energy around the event this year. Not that many show type bikes around or the typical motorcycle traffic that we have seen in the past.

Not sure what it was, but by about 2:30pm we had seen everything there was to see, mostly because there wasn't much interesting to see. So while we were sitting at the container park eating some gelato and wondering what we were going to do for the rest of the afternoon, I decided to look for some other options. After doing some Google work, we decided to leave downtown and go to the Carroll Shelby Heritage Center Museum located just off of I-15 and Sunset Rd. near McCarran Intl. Airport.

Carroll Shelby is a legend among car racers and gear heads for the last 50 years and the visit to the museum did not disappoint. An added bonus is that it is Free! You walk into the huge gift shop that you will find most anything Shelby. Continue walking to your right and you will reach the heritage room that is full of historic Shelby cars as well as some of the more recent versions that are on display. There is a guided tour 2 times per day of the whole facility or you can do a self guided tour of the cars only.

Along the way there are timelines of Carroll Shelby's career as well as history of the cars that are sitting in front of you. If you are not on a guided tour,
be sure to ask for the web page that will give you the audio tour of the museum cars as you go along. Or save this link: ( This will explain how they build the new cars and the history of the older ones on display. One wall of the room is all glass that creates a fishbowl of the shop that you can watch as they are building new Shelby cars that will be delivered to Ford dealers all over the U.S.

We had missed the 2 hour guided tour time that will explain the history of the displayed cars in the museum, as well as take you into the shop to talk with the designers and see the new Cobras being built and modified. But that was alright this time, we will definitely go back for that. If you are a gear head or just have a little motorsports enthusiast of any kind in you, this place is really something to put on your list of things to do while you are in Las Vegas. Learning about the history of Carrol Shelby and his legacy was very informative and made viewing his creations even that much better. This is a place that Women will like as well, as there is plenty of eye candy to see in the form of beautiful cars.

There are 2 Free guided tours per day Monday - Friday 10:30am and 1:30pm. Saturday one tour at 10:30am. No guided tours on Sundays. Tours are free and do not require reservation. If you miss a guided tour, you can still see the car display. The Carroll Shelby
Heritage Center Museum is located at 6405 Ensworth St. in Las Vegas, NV just minutes from the South end of the strip and right next to McCarran Airport.702-942-7325.

If you only have a short time, stop by and see the classic Shelby's on display, and if you have a couple of hours to spare, be sure to take the entire tour. I have heard it is well worth your time. We will be doing that next time we are in town. I rely on Trip Advisor for most of my travel advice because they are truly customer driven reviews. This tour is rate 4.5 Stars and gets some great reviews. Click Here.

Click Here for some photos from the collection of cars in the museum. Two of my favorites were the all aluminum polished body on the Cobra, and the Series 1 that only 250 were produced.

On a side note, along the way to Shelby, we went past Mandalay Bay and the area where they put the 58 white crosses to memorialize those killed in the Las Vegas shootings. It was somber, and uplifting at the same time to see the hundreds of people lined up with flowers and balloons waiting to walk through the crosses. Vegas is truly #vegasstrong.

God Bless America!

Ride Safe,

**ONLY 2 FRIDAYS LEFT FOR THE CYCLERIDES.COM BIKE NIGHT AT WESTGATE in this series of Fridays. We will move to Thursday nights for 2 nights beginning on October 26th for 2 Thursdays, then back to Friday, November 10th for the big Veterans Day bike night and close out the season on November 16th. It gets a little crazy on the last 4 nights, but we had to do that because of events at the arena. Live Music this Friday with "Supernatural".

Go to Bike Night

Only 2 Fridays left before we go to Thursday on October 26th Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District. Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District will begin our 9th Fall Season with 11 nights total on Friday, September 8th from 5pm - 9pm. Yes, you read that correct, Friday night. Due to interest in Friday nights last time and some conflict with events at the arena, we have decided to do the first 7 Bike Nights at Westgate on Friday nights. For those of you putting this in your calendars to keep track, those dates will be Friday nights from September 8th - October 20th.

Here is where it gets a little tricky. Our first idea was to do the last 4 nights on Thursday nights and that is how we were going to proceed. Then Westgate got notified of an event happening at the arena on Thursday, Nov. 9th. So we are switching that one night to Friday, November 10th when we will have a big Veteran's Day celebration at bike night. So the last 4 nights will be on Thursdays, October 26th, November 2nd and November 16th for the last night. November 10th will be on a Friday. It was unfortunate that we couldn't keep all 4 Thursdays in a row, but with all the conflicts either way, this was the best way to do it.

This is a great excuse for all to get out on the motorcycle and enjoy some cooler weather especially for evening riding. There was a lot of good feedback on Friday nights last time as a lot of people used it for a date night on the motorcycle and were able to stay out a little longer as for some it isn't a work night.

Live Music:
Friday, October 13th: "Supernatural"
Friday, October 20th: "Strangeland"
Thursday, October 26th: "Kung Fu Grip"
