Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
10/8/14

Greetings Riders,

I was going to go in a totally different direction in the letter today, but was moved to comment on the following. Thank you in advance for allowing me to share this.

First of all, I would like to send my condolences to two great people who have suffered a tremendous tragedy. Jeff and Ronda Allaway lost their 20 year old son, Jeff Jr. in a car accident this past week. As many of you know, Ronda is the General Merchandise Manager at Buddy Stubbs HD and Jeff is the Pastor at Big House Inc. With Ronda’s ever present smile when you walk into Buddy Stubbs and Jeff’s work with his Church preaching the gospel to many riders and others, they are both entrenched in the motorcycle world here in the Phoenix area. I was not able to make the Celebration of Life service that they had for Jeff Jr., but from what I read on Facebook, it was amazing!

From all of the posts that I have read, there was a common thread from Jeff Sr’s. remarks in this service which spoke to me and that was the words, wring out everyday. And from another Facebook post from the service, “We are not promised tomorrow, lets not take for granted the moment we are living in. Lets wring out every day with purpose in love; before God in His service for the benefit of one another and increase the kingdom of heaven through our Christ like witness before a dying world. Finish strong!”

As motorcycle riders, we live in an inherently more dangerous world. We all know that. But what keeps us loving it is the exhilaration that we get from living our life, not by statistics, but a little bit on the edge, fulfilling a desire of travel that only we can describe, and seeing God’s creations with a 360 degree view. For me, when I go out for a ride, be it for 300 miles, or 3000 miles, it seems that each mile after mile is able to replace what I thought was wrong with what I profess can possibly be. To Jeff’s point, it is a way to wring out what needs to be gone and replace it with a fresh perspective, dreams and motivation of what can be.

My 89 year old Dad gives me this message once per week. He says, “Son, you and Tammy get out and do things you want to do now while you are young, you never know what tomorrow is going to bring.” He will go on to say that Mom and him had planned on traveling and doing a lot together, then she got cancer and past away 14 years ago. Leaving them with many things they still wanted to do. He still talks to this day that one of the things they wanted to was to visit Australia.

So for once in my life, I am taking my Father’s advice. To learn from my parents, we are committed to doing all we can now while we both have our health and blessed with the ability to do so. I guess we will worry about retirement when the time comes. But we feel like this is our time now. I have heard of too many people that have put life on hold until retirement, amassing huge retirement accounts, living every day for that day in the future, and when the time comes, they were not able to enjoy it with the one they love. And from one of my favorite quotes: "The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."

So as Jeff Sr. said in the service, We are not promised tomorrow, lets not take for granted the moment we are living in. Lets WRING OUT EVERY DAY with purpose. May God Bless Jeff and Ronda Allaway and help ease their pain. Their words and their commitment to God, all while continuing to preach the gospel and comfort others in this difficult time, is inspiring and something that we can all learn from.

“Laugh your heart out,
Dance in the rain,
Cherish the moment,
Ignore the pain,
Live, Laugh, Love,
forgive and forget,
Life’s too short to be
Living with Regrets.”
