Update
5/23/12
Greetings Riders,
Well, if you got through the heat this week, the payoff is good
riding on the weekend. As for us, Friday morning we are heading to
California for some really cool riding weather on the Pacific Coast
Highway 1 up to Monterey. Predicted highs are for around 60 degrees along the
coast. If only I could some way bottle that up and use it during the 110’s here
in the valley, that would be the ticket. But since we all know that can’t
happen, I will just have to use that as a memory when I need it. For those of
you that missed the newsletter last week about Mrs. C’s new Street Glide,
Click
Here.
The plan is to be do a similar trip with a few different twists
that we did last July
4th. First stop will be San Bernardino and up to Angeles Crest
Highway 2, then over to the Reagan Library, Ojai, Santa Barbara before spending
the night in Solvang, CA. Next day will be up the 101 to San Luis Obispo where
we will catch the Hwy 1 through Morro Bay and on up to Cambria for some fuel
before hitting the sweet spot of the Pacific Coast Highway between there and
Monterey. Along the way we will make a stop at Hearst Castle, Seal Beach,
Nepenthe Restaurant for lunch, Pfeiffer State Park and on in to Monterey on
Cannery Row for the night.
The next day is a little up in the air as it will be weather
related. If we have a good clear ride up the coast, which is a crap
shoot on just about any day you do it, we will turn inland on Day 3 starting out
on Carmel Valley Rd. and working our way through the back roads and the golden
rolling hills of California down to Lake Nacimiento, Paso Robles to Hwy. 58, to
Pine Mountain then hopefully somewhere around Palmdale. Not sure how far we will
make it that day.
On Monday we will hopefully take the loop around Big Bear Lake
before heading home. As usual, we like to spend most of the day in
the saddle so those last 2 days will be full of hours and miles. But hey, that
is why we are out there right? The idea is to fill out some deposit slips for
that memory bank of life. You can’t do that sitting on the couch or in a motel
room, might as well have some fun. Check the Cyclerides.com
Facebook Page often as I will be posting photos
along the way. Even if you don’t have a Facebook Page yourself, you can still
see the photos and comments that I post. Click “Like” if you are on
Facebook.
This week has really slipped by as I have been getting both bikes
ready for their first meaningful road trip with all of the road
worthy accessories, installing new bluetooth wireless headsets in the helmets
and researching back roads, etc. Not to mention getting the video and program
prepared for the Memorial Day Celebration that I will be doing at the
Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night this Thursday night.
On that subject, I would like to invite everyone to the
Memorial Day Celebration that we will be having on Thursday, May 24th at
the
Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike
Night presented by the
Law Tigers.
Special guest Mike Broomhead who does the drive time show on 550
KFYI Radio who will address the crowd about the importance of remembering our
troops on Memorial Day. We will also have the Patriot Guard Riders as well as a
great video presentation on the giant LED at Westgate that will really bring
home the meaning of Memorial Day. We don’t have many opportunities to publicly
show support for our past and present troops. This will be a good chance to do
just that. Looks like the high is to be under 100 degrees, so it will be a great
night for a ride. Presentation begins with the National Anthem at 8 PM and will
last 15 minutes. Live Music will be “Kung Fu Grip” which you will REALLY enjoy.
Ride by and show your support for those that have
given all for us. See you there.

let us see how good it is.
On Thursday, May 31st, Paul Yaffe and

Westgate Bike Night presented by Law Tigers. This will be a
head to head tournament competition between bikes that will be decided each

applause will decide the winner of each round. The ultimate winner will win a
$500 Gift Certificate to Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation. If you have a power stereo
