Cyclerides.com Weekly
Update
5/16/12
Greetings Riders,
First of all, I would like to wish my wonderful wife, aka, Mrs.
C., Happy Anniversary!
Today, May 16th marks 31 years of marriage
for us. I want to publicly thank her for all she has done to support me in my
crazy endeavors over the years, for being my best friend, for wanting to spend
every available moment together, and for what she has done in raising our
daughter who has now given us an awesome Grandson, and in a couple of months,
another one. We enjoy every day together and have been blessed to beat the odds
to make it this far. Thank you Tammy for 31 great
years!
For those of you that might have missed last week’s newsletter
that featured the Cyclerides.com 4 Lake Tour,
good in town ride destinations. The Saguaro’s are in bloom and these are some
good quick getaway’s. Look’s like mother nature is giving us a sneak peek into
what this Summer has in store by getting us into the 105 temperature range
already. Seems a little early to me, but from the looks of the extended forecast
over the next couple of weeks, we better enjoy the 105 while we have it.
It has been an exciting week in the Cyclerides garage as Mrs.
C., believe it or not, has finally traded in the
V-ROD and defected to the bagger
world.
It wasn’t easy for her to give up the V-ROD as that is the
only bike she has ridden for the last 10 years, but after renting a Street Glide
to try out, she understands the comfort for longer rides and is now the proud
owner of a 2012 HD Street Glide.
It is a former rental bike at Arrowhead Harley that had just
came out of their fleet and has 9000 miles on it, ABS brakes, a 103
engine and is in perfect condition. The Big Blue Pearl color was not our first
choice, we really wanted the Red Sunglow, but it didn’t matter what color it was
as we planned to put a shade of red custom paint on it anyway.
If you have ever seen the
Mako Glide, you know that I am a card
carrying “Chromosexual”,
which automatically carries over to her
bike. So I have started the “Chromitization” of the Street Glide adding some
personal touches for Mrs. C. along the way. I have also added chrome lower
forks, Stage 1 air cleaner, Rinehart 4 inch slip-ons that sound awesome and have
taken the stock wheels in to get chromed as well. After a 4 day trip over
Memorial Day weekend across Angeles Crest Hwy, up the Pacific Coast to Monterey
and back through the back roads of California, I will be taking the parts off to
be painted and deliver to Chad at C.R. Designs to let him do his magic as he did
on the Mako Glide.
We did do a quick little 250 mile ride this past Saturday for
her to really get a real test on it.
One of the chrome parts I
needed was in Mayer at Grand Canyon Harley, so that was a perfect excuse to take
a ride. We left here around 3:30 PM, rode to Mayer, picked up the part, then
continued on North on I-17 to Munds Park to have an Ice Tea on their
patio for an hour and then back home by 8:15 pm
for dinner at Carraba’s. A nice little 4 hour and 45 minute 250 mile ride. The
verdict is in and Mrs. C. says she now “Get’s It”. She loves the V-Rod, but also
loves the creature comforts of the Street Glide with the fairing, cruise control
and ABS brakes. Welcome to the bagger family. Stay tuned for the finished
product.
After putting 5000 miles on the Mako in the last 5 months,
I am convinced that it is able to do everything that I need it to do on
long rides. It has been a true joy to ride with the current configuration of
stretched 1.5 inches, raked 7 degrees and a 23 inch wheel. Based on the way this
handles I wish I had done it years ago. Since the 2005 Yellow Road Glide has
gotten very little use during this time, I have decided to sell it. If you know
of anyone looking for a used Road Glide, email me at info@cyclerides.com for more
information.
Tidbits and Updates:
SAVE THE
DATE!
I would like to invite everyone to the
Memorial Day
Celebration that we will be having on Thursday, May 24th at the
Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night
presented by the
Law Tigers.
I would like to welcome special guest Mike Broomhead who does the drive
time show on 550 KFYI Radio who will address the crowd about the importance of
remembering our troops on Memorial Day. We will also have a great video
presentation on the giant LED at Westgate that will really bring home the
meaning of Memorial Day. We don’t have many opportunities to publicly show
support for our past and present troops. This will be a good opportunity to do
just that. I know it is going to be hot, but it is nothing compared to what our
troops have to endure every day. Presentation begins with the National Anthem at
8 PM and will last 15 minutes. See you there.
Looking Ahead. . .
Do you have the Baddest stereo system in the valley on your bike? If so,
let us see how good it is.
On Thursday, May 31st, Paul Yaffe and
Rockford Fosgate will sponsor what we are calling “Stereo Wars” at the Cyclerides.com
Westgate Bike Night presented by Law Tigers. This will be a
head to head tournament competition between bikes that will be decided each
round by YOU! After the contestants demonstrate how good their stereo is, your
applause will decide the winner of each round. The ultimate winner will win a
$500 Gift Certificate to Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation. If you have a power stereo
on your bike that you would like to show off, email me at info@cyclerides.com to enter.
**I would like to give
Mad Dog
Saloon some “mad props” for the great job they are doing with their Tuesday
Bike Night.
They have plenty of staff to handle the crowds, great
food and prompt service. These guys “Get It”, want the biker’s business and go
out of their way to take care of us. As I have said before, this is a great bike
night venue and is quickly becoming the place to be on Tuesday nights for bike
night. Thanks to the management for welcoming and embracing motorcycle riders.
Stop by and see for yourself!

Sunday, May 20th
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer recently signed a proclamation
making the month of May, ARIZONA MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AND AWARENESS MONTH! All riders know that more needs to be done to raise motorists awareness
to the thousands of motorcycles sharing U.S. roads and highways each year.
Communities across the nation experience crashes resulting in serious rider
injury or fatality due to inattentive, careless or unaware drivers. In fact,
according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2008, 47
percent of all motorcycles involved in fatal crashes collided with another type
of motor vehicle. As a rider, every time you have thrown that leg across the
saddle and head out, you get first hand knowledge of how so many drivers are
simply not paying attention. This ride is about getting out there and being as
visible as you can. All we ask is that at least a few drivers will get the
message.
Event time- 9:00. Rides depart- 10:00 Sharp. New This Year- Your
choice of 2 different start locations. Eastside – MESA: CACTUS MOON SPORTS
GRILL. Riverview Shopping Center Loop 202 and Dobson (Near Bass Pro).
Westside/GLENDALE-WESTGATE CITY CENTER. Parking Lot EAST of the Westgate complex
(Corner of Sunrise and Coyote Dr). Ending at Harold's Cave Creek Corral. Located
in beautiful downtown Cave Creek. Fee: It doesn't cost anything to participate
in this ride. This ride is open to any and all motorcycle riding individuals,
clubs, and groups.
