We are now into May and it is once again time for the Law Tigers Flat Track Arizona Mile presented by Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson
on Saturday, May 12th. Flat Track racing has made a big comeback over
the last 3-4 years and it is really bringing out the crowds for this
type of racing much like it did over 70 years ago. The battle with
Harley-Davidson and Indian has picked up right where it left off over
3/4 of a century ago with Indian Motorcycles taking the big lead in
wins. It will be interesting this year to see if Harley-Davidson can be
more competitive than they have been so far. The races that I saw the
last couple of years wasn't which brand was going to win, but which
rider on an Indian was going to win.
Once each year the one-mile
Turf Paradise horse racing track, located at 1501 W Bell Road, Phoenix, AZ is converted to a flat track
motorcycle racing venue for the Arizona Mile. With speeds of over 135
miles-per-hour, some of the best riders in the world will battle
head-to-head and wheel-to-wheel on some of the greatest motorcycle
brands including Harley-Davidson, Indian, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda,
Suzuki, Husqvarna, KTM, Ducati and more at this spectacular venue.
At last year’s Law Tigers American Flat Track Arizona Mile, fans
were treated to one of the closest finishes in AFT history with Indian
Motorcycle factory rider and “Mile Master” Bryan Smith pulling out a
half-bike margin win over teammate Brad Baker. With the thundering,
large-displacement AFT Twins and 450cc-class AFT Singles bikes in
action, this year’s Mile is sure to offer the same sort of
The Law Tigers American Flat Track Arizona Mile presented by Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson
is the first Mile event on the 2018 American Flat Track national
championship schedule, and it’s sure to be exciting in both the AFT
Twins class presented by Vance and Hines (up to 750 cc displacement)
and AFT Singles class (up to 450 cc displacement). We will have a
chance to see who has gone the extra mile in the off-season to improve
their machines, training and preparation for this first Mile race of
New for 2018 is the Arizona Mile Celebrity Mini Bike Race presented by Arizona Mini Bike and Go Kart. This
mini bike race will pit local tv, radio and media personalities against
each other in a three-round winner-take-all format. Scott Pasmore from TV 3 and I will be participating in this race. Come out to root for Cyclerides.com and see who wins! Mini Bike races are at 2:45 and 3:15 pm.
There’s a lot more to see and experience over and above the racing
action, too. This year’s ’70s/’80s ‘Throwback’ Party means you can
break out your best Evel Knievel or On Any Sunday T-shirts and boogie
to a live band, take part in the ‘70s/’80s costume contest, enjoy the
vintage motorcycle show, and check out the vendor row with great brands
and items. Costume contest winners (two sets of two tickets) will be
upgraded to a suite to enjoy all of the racing action.
The racing all takes place
