Well, as the old saying goes, “The best laid plans of mice and men often go
awry”. This would be the case with me as I sit here tonight trying
to get the newsletter out. My intent last week was to lay out this new favorite
ride of mine to the wine country up North complete with pictures, maps and other
ideas for a good day ride, but with all of the other things that cropped up this
week, I just couldn’t do it justice. And if I can’t do it right for you, I would
rather postpone it. So as I sit here without a plan B for the editorial part of
the letter, I will tell you what I have been working on that has been taking my
With bike night season and great evening riding weather upon us, after
starting the Cyclerides.com Bike
Night at Westgate
presented by the Law Tigers, I have been
getting a lot of requests for something on the East side of the Valley. As most
of you know, last year I also did an East side bike night at Mesa Riverview.
What you don’t know is that the powers that be at Mesa Riverview decided to do a
full blown redevelopment which includes taking out some buildings, and
redeveloping the street area. Unfortunately that took away the venue as we used
it last year. The good news is that part of what has taken away my newsletter
writing time are some meetings with Cactus Moon and other restaurants at
Riverview that would like to continue bike nights there again this year.
We are currently working out the logistics that include
parking, street closure and putting a live band outdoors every Friday night as
we did last season. We are close to getting everything we need to make that
happen, so I should be able to let you know that it is a go, or not, next week.
The bottom line is, I am working to make it the best that it can possibly be, or
I will not go forward with it. But my fingers are crossed that we will be able
to resurrect this bike night for the East Valley.
I am also working on 2 other bike nights in the East Valley. One in downtown Chandler that would be on Wednesday nights and one in
East Mesa on Thursday nights. I am really excited about all of these locations
and will do my best to make them a great destination for you and a good excuse
to get your bike out of the garage for a weeknight ride. Hopefully I will be
able to announce all of these in the letter next week. Stay tuned to the
Cyclerides.com Facebook for the
announcements as soon as I get them and in the newsletter next week. If you

Sorry for not getting the Wine Ride story done for you, but I
will do my best to get it completely done and out to you next Wednesday. I have
some good pictures from both the air and the ground as well as a detailed map
for this 250+ mile route. I’m sure you will like it as much as we did.
As you might know, the Phoenix Coyotes made the playoffs this year. Congratulations to them. But scheduling gave them a home game this
Thursday night. For the playoffs they are taking events plaza at Westgate where
we normally do bike night and making it a beer garden. There will be several
displays and stages for radio and TV stations set up for the game. Since so many
of us look forward to bike night, I didn’t want to cancel it or move it to
another day, so we decided to take the the 2 streets to the North for bike
parking and put the band in the the middle grassy area. I really think this is
going to be a cool change for bike night. You will be able to get food from some
of the surrounding restaurants including Johnny Rockets, Mama Gina’s, Shane’s or
Wich Wich and bring it in, sit on the grass and watch the band and the bikes
cruise the square. Plus you can walk over to the events plaza area and see all
of the action there as well.
Time is 5-9 PM. We will still have all the vendors, Live Music with
“Hardride” starts at 6 PM and bike parking all around the square
with a bike show in the middle. I’m anxious to see how this temporary location
is going to work out. Look forward to seeing you there. Click Here for
