Cyclerides.com Weekly
Update
4/3/13
Greetings Riders,
In the newsletter last week, I started it off with the line: “Ladies and
Gentlemen – Start Your Engines. . . Motorcycle Nirvana in the Valley of the Sun
is just about to begin”.
At the time, I didn’t know how prophetic
those words were going to be. But judging by the first night of the Cyclerides.com
Westgate Bike Night last Thursday night, I
might have even underestimated the desire for riders to get out on their bikes
and take advantage of this beautiful weather we are having. Thanks to all who
showed up to make this one of the biggest non Bike Week crowds we have had in
over 3 years. The band was great, the weather was great and a good time was had
by all. It sure was fun to see everyone happy and back out on their bikes.
Click
Here to see some photos I took with my Galaxy
S3.
This week we will be one street to the North of where we usually set up as
there is a Hockey game on the same night. There will be on street
parking on 2 streets as well as plenty of overflow parking. There will be live
music with the Backstage Crew in the Fountain Plaza area. Should be a good time.
Next week we will be back in the normal location for the rest of the nights.
Thanks again for helping kick off the first night in GRAND style. Look forward
to seeing you this week.
Not only is bike night just getting started and will continue every
Thursday for the next 13 weeks, but Arizona Bike Week is beginning
with the Pre-Rally Days starting this Friday. Arizona Bike Week has continually
raised the bar for the last couple of years and from what I can tell, this one
is shaping up to be one of the best yet that should take it to the level of
being mentioned with some of the best Rally’s in the country.
The concert schedule this year is excellent featuring: Tonic – 4/10, Blues
Traveler - 4/11, Doobie Brothers – 4/12 and Third Eye Blind – 4/13 with Freebird
to close it out on Sunday the 14th.
A Five-day pass to Cyclefest,
HandleBar Saloon and Vendor Village, April 10-14 is $45. Incudes: Admission to
Miss ABW Pageant, Harley Stunt Shows, Freestyle Jumper Shows, Tonic Concert,
Blues Traveler Concert, Doobie Brothers Concert, Third Eye Blind Concert, Ryan
Hurst “Opie” and Mark Boone Jr. “Bobby”, from the FX television series, Sons of
Anarchy, Special Appearance, Freebird Concert and all other Cyclefest
exhibitions, contests, etc. (sorry, too many to list). No Ticketing fees,
Management fees, Convenience fees, Processing fees, Shipping fees, Facility
fees, Service charge, Tax or Parking Fees. Total Cost $45 for all 5 days.
Bottom line is; we don’t like getting hit with a bunch of
add-on charges, so we don’t charge them. If you’d like to see for yourself, go
to www.azbikeweek.com.
And by the way, we also have single day passes available from $15 – $25. No
additional fees apply to those either.
I’ve been trying to come up with a good way
to purvey all of the Arizona Bike Week activities and other events going on that
week in one concise way.
If I list all the events here, it just
turns into information overload. The fact of the matter is that there are so
many events going on at any given time, that you couldn’t possibly do them all,
so I just decided to list in the newsletter a few of the highlighted events over
the next 10 days. Simply go to www.arizonabikeweek.com/events.htm
and click on the tab of the day that you are interested. It is very
nicely laid out for you. You can also go to
the Cyclerides.com Event
Page to see some other non
Bike Week events going on.
In addition to the over 150 vendors that you will be available to peruse
over the 5 days at Cyclefest, other special events, the daily
concerts and entertainment, and the charity rides, there are a couple of
interesting events that stuck out to me.
Daily Shows – FMX Freestyle Motocross Extreme Stunt
Shows and Demos. Hottest extreme sport out there right now!
Daily Shows – Yo’ Face Stunt Show. 2013 Busted Knuckles
Tour, all Harley Stunt Show in the ABW arena.
Daily Events at the Hideaway in Cave Creek with lots of
activities.
Daily - Factory Demo Rides from Harley-Davidson,
Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Can-Am and Victory.
6 PM Wednesday – Miss Arizona Bike Contest in the
Handlebar Saloon.
8 PM Wednesday – Congratulations to Nick Trask, this
year’s Arizona Bike Week Hero award winner.
12:00 Noon Saturday – Paul Yaffe’s Bagger Nation
Baddest Bagger Bike Show at Cyclefest.
12 – 5 PM Sunday - Sons of Anarchy special appearance
with “Bobby” and “Opie”, sponsored by Arrowhead Harley-Davidson. Ride with them
from Arrowhead HD at 11:30 AM.
At this point, I am not even sure what events I am going to take in,
but there will not be a lack of choices that is for sure. I also plan to
get a few aerial photos with the Bike Week photographer, so if you see a white
Cessna 182 RG with a red nose circling around that LOOKS LIKE
THIS, WAVE! It might be me.
Those photos will be shared on the Cyclerides.com
Facebook.
And most of all, please ride extremely Careful AND Sober. This
is the time of year that we all cringe when we hear that a bike has gone down.
Ride extra defensive, and if you have been over served, do us all a favor and
don’t ride at all. Think about your friends and loved ones before getting on the
bike impaired. We’ve all lost too many friends this way. There will be plenty of
cabs available. Discount Cabs number is 602-200-2000. Put it in your phone.
