Weekly Update
3/24/10
Greetings Riders,
Well, with life getting in the way, I
haven't been able to enjoy this fabulous riding weather as much as I would like
to, but at least Mrs. C. and I were able to get out Sunday
afternoon for a few hours and put on 110 miles. It wasn't a lot, but for some
reason it went a long way in massaging between the ears where I needed the
moto-therapy. We left the West side of the valley with our destination being
Bartlett Lake with the intent to enjoy viewing
the wildflowers covering the mountains near the lake.
We left the West valley and pointed
to Carefree Hwy. heading East then taking the scenic route through Cave
Creek before reaching our turn to Bartlett Dam Rd. approximately 4 miles NE of Pima Rd. From there it is a 13
mile ride down to the lake through several twisties before a straight downhill
with a great view of the lake. As we were riding along enjoying the day and the
route, I kept waiting to get my first glimpse of a hill covered with yellow
poppies like I had seen a couple of years ago. Unfortunately on this day all I
got was a flashback to when I was 6 years old and it had nothing to do with
yellow poppies.
This is going to sound kind of
strange, but this is why I call riding, moto-therapy, because you can let
your mind be renewed, flushing out the challenging thoughts while conjuring
up desirable ones from the past. I remember when I
was a little kid and got a 100 pack of Black Cat firecrackers.
When I got older I would just light the whole pack and let them rip, but at age
6, I wanted to savor the experience by hearing each one of them to go off
individually. So I would set them on the ground, light them with my punk, cover
my ears and let them explode. But sometimes I would be anticipating the big bang
and all I would get was just get a dull pop. We called them a "dud". That
explanation was a long way to get here, but that is what I felt when I got
to the hills next to Bartlett Lake hoping for a big bang of wildflowers, but all
I got was a dull pop. The lack of flowers were a dud to what I was
anticipating.
Although it wasn't was I was hoping
for, it was still a beautiful day, on a beautiful road to a very nice
riding destination especially
with the mountains being covered with cactus and lush green vegetation due
to the recent rains. And the good news, I will have an
excellent excuse to do it all over again when the wildflowers are in full bloom.
Next weekend we plan to head to Tortilla Flat, my favorite ride in
the valley. Hopefully we will be greeted with plenty of color. If you
have not done the Bartlett Lake Ride, I would highly recommend it. Be sure and
take the 4 mile ride to Rattlesnake Cove. Another good ride on your way out is
to turn right and take the road till the pavement ends about 4 miles. Very
pretty back there. Click Here for Day Ride feature. If you were
out there riding, Sunday afternoon, check out the pictures link below. I took a
few of riders going by. You might be in there.
If you like photos of flowers, Rusty
Childress of Main Event Imaging took some great close ups of flowers out there.

Bike Night
Updates - 2 New ones!
Westgate kicked off the upcoming
Cyclerides.com Bike Nights in a big way this past Thursday night!
Take advantage of these nights to
get the bike out and spend
some fun times with your riding

Westgate Bike Night in Association with

exciting night. This week we have the U.S. Navy Band "The Destroyers"
taking the stage in center court to kick off U.S. Navy Week. This 8 piece band
plays current music trends while refining and polishing the classics that
everyone has grown to love. The result is an exciting, high caliber
performance with something for every audience member. You will enjoy. National Anthem to be played and sung by "The
Destroyers" at 6pm with support by the Patriot Guard Riders. Special Guest
Builder Nick Trask of Trask Performance will be on display. Click

excellent location for a city street bike night as it has 4 restaurants on the
street and 3 of them with outdoor patios. You can sit outside, eat dinner and
watch the bikes roll by from Upper Deck Sports Grill, Dos Gringos, ACME Bar
& Grill and Whitehouse. There will be music on the street as well as vendors
with motorcycle displays from our Sponsor Hacienda Harley-Davidson. The weather
should be great for an evening ride. Stop by this Wednesday and help us kick off this first
night.

Wednesday
For those of you on the East side of town, you
have not been forgotten. This is something that I have wanted to do
for a few years, and it is finally happening. I will be starting a new bike
night in Downtown Scottsdale on Wednesday nights. Many of you might remember a
few years ago when Arizona Bike Week had the Tuesday night party on Craftsman
Ct. in Downtown Scottsdale. We will be re-creating that great party by
blocking off Craftsman Ct. between 3rd Ave. and 5th Ave., just West of
Scottsdale Rd. each Wednesday night for motorcycle only
parking. This is the same location as the Downtown Scottsdale Block
Party.
Four bars and restaurants on this street will be
participating in this event with Bike Night specials including:
Upper Deck Sports Grill,
Dos
Gringos,
Whitehouse and
Acme Bar &
Grill.
Three of these places have outdoor
patios and are set up perfect for a bike night. Plenty of trees and a nice
ambiance around. We will have music, vendors, food specials, drink specials and
plenty of plenty of fun as we head into riding season.
Put Wednesday, March 24th on your calendar for
the Cyclerides.com Downtown Scottsdale Bike Night. More
information to follow in the letter next week.
Thanks to Hacienda
Harley-Davidson in Scottsdale as our first sponsor of this
event. Be sure to stop by their display to see the latest in Harley-Davidson and
Custom motorcycles.

Arizona Bike Week sure are. We've been working all year to
bring you the best event yet. Well, maybe we took a couple weeks off to
check out some of the other rallies but we think of that as "research".

riding and music. So we've made sure Arizona Bike Week 2010
offers plenty of both!
Whether you prefer organized runs or
carving out your own path, there's plenty of options for everyone. Our scenic
terrain and amazing April weather make for some of the best riding in the

couple years ago). And Saturday night it's that "Bad to the Bone" rocker George
Thorogood & The Destroyers. These concerts start at 9pm but you won't want
to miss the opening bands, featuring some hot local acts.
If any of you out-of-towners are
thinking of hitting the road Sunday, you're gonna miss the final day of ridin'

Extras
Most bikes don't run as good as they can. Especially new ones.
Have you unlocked your bike's performance potential?
Ask yourself these questions:
Is your bike running hot? Does your bike pop on decel? Do you
get poor fuel economy? Is your bike lacking in power?
Is your bike hard to start? Does your bike have flat spots
during acceleration?
Have you had engine upgrades performed and didn't get the
expected results?
If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions
read on. All of these are common problems and can be solved with one simple
solution. Dyno tuning by an experienced tuner. Not all dyno tunes are
equal. At Trask Performance we have been
pushing the performance envelope for the past ten years and have become the
Southwest's premier performance center for Harleys. All of our maps are
custom built for your motorcycle, we don't use pre-made maps. We tune front and
rear cylinders independently to ensure correct fuel mixture and ignition
timing. This ensures your best performance and fuel economy. Building
maps this way takes time and ensures that you are getting the best possible
results for your money. We do it right the first time. Guaranteed. We
are so sure we can help you, that we are offering Cyclerides.com readers a
FREE Performance Dyno Evaluation on your bike, a $75.00 value.

Don't have room for a bike trailer at your house?

effortlessly load your bike in less than 4 minutes. And the best news is that
you do not need to own a pick-up truck, trailer, or find a friend to help you.
