Weekly Update
3/16/11
Greetings Riders,
Well, the last couple of weeks have
been absolutely Chamber of Commerce type weather for us in the Phoenix area.
It is no wonder why the streets and freeways are clogged with out
of state plates when the middle of March offers up high temps in the 80's. And
for motorcycle riders, it doesn't get much better than this. Hopefully you have
been able to take advantage of it. The bike is now my first choice for
transportation due to the weather and the price of gas. The savings are now
significant on a trip across town.
So as I sit here looking at the
calendar trying to map out the next 18 days through Bikeweek, things are going to be very busy for me for the next couple of weeks. Not
only is there the web site to keep updated, the newsletter to write,
preparations for Bikeweek activities, having a booth at Westworld this
year and meetings to help organize the Arizona Centennial Ride, there
is also the daily business for my Hat
Saver product.
The finishing touches are now being
put on the first night of the Cyclerides.com
Westgate Bike Night which starts on Thursday, March 31st. Not
only that, I am also just finishing preparations to begin a very large bike
night in the East valley starting on Friday, April 8th that will be
announcing hopefully this weekend on the Cyclerides.com
Facebook and certainly in the newsletter next
week. It is all good, just a lot of concentration of activity at the same time,
but happy to have the work.
So, needless to say, there is a lot
going on over the next couple of weeks that will be a good time for all, but will have me going a few different directions at the same time. I
am excited about Bikeweek this year and look forward to seeing all of you
around town and hopefully putting on some miles.
As I mentioned above, we are ready to
start up the Cyclerides.com
Westgate Bike Night again for this Spring which will run for 14 weeks on
Thursday nights, March 31st - June 30th, 5pm - 9pm. We had such a
good Fall season with the bike night that we are really excited make this
session even more fun this year. Thanks once again to Westgate City Center for
opening their beautiful facility to a night that is all about motorcycles, no
matter what kind you ride.
The first night will be a tribute to
the fallen and injured riders of the horrible motorcycle accident on Carefree
highway that happened almost exactly one year ago. Ernie Lizarraga, the Phoenix Fire Captain who was in extremely serious condition after the
accident, clinging to life and in a coma for a month has been in
intense rehabilitation ever since. I am happy to announce that Ernie will
be at this first night on March 31st and is anxious to address the crowd from
the stage to give us an update on his past year.
Ernie will be escorted in by
Firefighters on motorcycles. His dream and personal goal is to ride
again as soon as he can. I don't know, but if he feels up to it, he might
even come in on 2 wheels on this night. We will have to wait and see.
Regardless how he gets there, we are all excited to see him in person after all
these months and hear what his journey has been over the last year since the
accident. I will tell you this, you will find him to be an inspiration as he
shares with you his road to recovery, his outlook on life and his feelings from
the past. If you would like to show your support to Ernie, the other victims,
and to the families of those who passed away on that unforgettable day, we
will have Ernie on stage at 7:15pm on Thursday, March 31st at Westgate City
Center located at on the SE Corner of Loop 101 and Glendale Ave. in
Glendale.
There will also be a Live Band,
Vendors, Food and Drink specials and LOTS of motorcycles. I look
forward to getting the bike night kicked off again and enjoying this great
evening riding weather we are about to have. Keep checking the Cyclerides.com Westgate Bike Night Page for weekly updates for programming and photos each
week.
I thank you for bearing with me over
these next couple of weeks. I will bring you as much information as
I can through the newsletter and also through the Cyclerides.com Facebook page
as I update it from different events around the valley and at Westworld during
Cyclefest. Even if you do not have a Facebook account, you can still bookmark
www.facebook.com/cycleridescom
and view all that I will be posting. If you are on Facebook, Click "Like" to
follow our posts. You can also follow us on Twitter as
Cyclerides.
The Arizona Bikeweek page is updated for you
to choose the events that you would like to go to. There is so much
to do that it is impossible to list all of it here, A couple of weeks ago I
highlighted some of the major events happening during these 10 days. Click Here to View.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago,
Arizona Bikeweek has chosen me as their "Arizona Bikeweek Hero"
award recipient for 2011. I'm not really comfortable with this kind
of recognition, as I am happy just remaining under the radar and do
what I do, but I am honored that they would think of me as having a
positive impact on the motorcycle industry in Arizona over the last several
years. The award will be given at 8pm on Wednesday, March 30th at
Westworld in the Handlebar Saloon following the Miss Arizona Bikeweek
competition. I would be honored to have all of those who could attend share this
with me. If you are in the area, we will be riding from the Hideaway to
Westworld at 6pm that day.
If you missed the newsletter last
week about "Group Riding Etiquette 101", you will probably want to
read it and share it with your riding groups. Click Here to
Read.
