Weekly Update
3/10/10
Greetings Riders,
As I said last week, March is my
favorite time of year as it pertains to riding. Just as the wildflowers will be
opening their petals to display their blooms, garage doors will be opening
to release the motorcycles that have been sitting way too long. Thousands of flowers of all types and colors will cover the hills
just as thousands of motorcycles of all makes and sizes will take to
the roads to go see them. With the rain we have had this year, the hillsides and
mountains will project a brilliant green that we don't see that often around
here, and within the next couple of weeks, the wildflowers should be in full
swing for us to enjoy. My plan is to ride a couple of known routes and take some
pictures for you to view. Then some from the air of the same area. To get your
riding juices flowing, look at this picture from 2008 on the
way to Bartlett Lake. Here is another one that I thought really captures the essence of Arizona
riding in the Spring after some good rains.
Not only are the wildflowers starting to bloom,
but our favorite bike night is coming back to the West Valley. Last
spring we started the Westgate Bike Night in
association with Cyclerides.com that turned out to be one of
the most talked about and best attended bike nights this State has
ever seen. There was some disappointment when it ended last July 2nd, but the
anticipation has been building this year and we are ready to once again kick it
off again on Thursday, March 18 from 5pm - 10pm. We hope to make this one
even better than last year with different programming every week.
If you were there last year, you know the
setting. In the midst of all the lights, billboards and 30'x50' LED Video
screen, Westgate has created the feel of Times Square in the desert and on
Thursdays it transforms into a mini Sturgis. Coyote Blvd., located
adjacent to the $6 million dancing fountains will be blocked off for
motorcycles only, as well as the entire events plaza and everywhere else you can
find a place to park your bike. If critical mass creates energy, we have it
here. Then throw in some music, lights, video, happening bars and restaurants
like Saddleranch, McFaddens, Margaritaville and the Shout House, add the roar of
a thousand motorcycles, and you've got yourself a party every Thursday
night.
To kick off the Westgate Bike Night on March 18th, we have
Special Guest, World Renowned Motorcycle Builder Paul
Yaffe who will be Featuring his Custom Baggers and the Arizona
Centennial "Copper Chopper" Prototype. Paul was chosen to build the Copper
Chopper that will tour the State to draw attention for the Arizona
Centennial coming in 2012. This will be your opportunity to meet Paul give
him some ideas for the bike.
Our musical guest for the 18th will be the
"Urban Roots Band". This 8 piece band is excellent, I'm sure
you will enjoy them. Urban Roots is bringing back the classic R&B, Motown,
blues music and the memories that we all have from the early 70's with
artists like Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett along with other timeless blues
greats such as B.B. King and Eric Clapton. The current 8-piece band consists of
all seasoned professional musicians who hail from the Boston and New York metro
markets playing for major bands back East including Iron Butterfly and Chaka
Kahn.
For the duration of this run over the next
15 weeks, I will be updating the Westgate Bike Night page with the weekly
photos, restaurant specials, special guests, musical guests
and programming. So bookmark this
page and check back every week to see what
is coming up. As a look ahead one week, I am proud to announce that the U.S.
Navy Touring Rock Band will be performing live during bike night on March 25th.
This is not your typical marching band. These guys rock. Stay tuned to the
newsletter for more information. I look forward to seeing you all next week at
Westgate.
New!!
For those of you on the East side of town, you
have not been forgotten. This is something that I have wanted to do
for a few years, and it is finally happening. I will be starting a new bike
night in Downtown Scottsdale on Wednesday nights. Many of you might remember a
few years ago when Arizona Bike Week had the Tuesday night party on Craftsman
Ct. in Downtown Scottsdale. We will be blocking off Craftsman Ct. between 3rd
Ave. and 5th Ave., just West of Scottsdale Rd. each Wednesday night for
motorcycle only parking. This is the same location as the Downtown Scottsdale
Block Party. Four bars and restaurants on this street will be participating in
this event including Upper Deck Sports Grill, Dos Gringos, Whitehouse and
Acme Bar & Grill. Three of these places have outdoor patios and
are set up perfect for a bike night. Plenty of trees and a nice ambiance
around. We will have music, vendors, food specials, drink specials and plenty of
plenty of fun as we head into riding season.
Put Wednesday, March 24th on your calendar for
the Cyclerides.com Downtown Scottsdale Bike Night. More
information to follow in the letter next week. If you would like to be a Sponsor or a Vendor at this event,
email me at info@cyclerides.com. Click Here for photos of the street, restaurants
and an aerial view. Should be a great place for a Wednesday night bike
night in Scottsdale. Click Here For Information

all the time with specials everyday just for riders. Legends is

Ok, this is one of those videos that I felt like
turning off a couple of times, but couldn't. I just knew that there had to

You decide. The video quality is good, so you can go 200% or full
