Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week with preview of Arizona Bike Week, Click Here to View.

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather we are having right now. I had the opportunity to go out to the Phoenix Open for the first time in 8 years on Friday and spent some time with some friends in the Bay Club. The weather could not have been better. After not going to the Open for 8 years, it was amazing to see how much it has grown in that period of time. It is like they build a small city out there for a week and the attendance just keeps going up every year. The old saying, "Build it and they will come", from the movie Field of Dreams, fits perfectly here because they keep adding suites and more people come. It is a sight to see.

This week I would like to announce the starting date and schedule for the Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District. I did a poll at the end of the Fall season asking what night that you preferred for bike night and it came out overwhelmingly with 75% voting for Friday nights. So we went into the scheduling meeting for this season looking for a way to start earlier in the year to enjoy the best weather and to maximize Friday nights. As most of you know, it can sometimes be a juggling act with bike night when we conflict with activities at the arena. Our goal is to minimize having arena events on our bike night dates.

So after checking the schedules we came up with what would be the best and easiest schedule to remember. We will kick off this 13 night season on Thursday, March 8th and will do 4 Thursdays in a row ending on Thursday, March 29th. This enables us to start bike night earlier and lessens conflicts with the arena. Then we will move to Friday nights on April 6th for the rest of the 13 night season ending on Friday, June 1st. The times will be as they were in the past with gates opening at 5pm for parking on Coyote Blvd and events plaza area. Bands will play from 6-9PM.

Live Bands for the first month:
We will kick off this season with 74th Street Band on March 8th,
followed by Backstage Crew, The Visitors and Skarlett Fever on Thursday March 29th. Stay tuned to the newsletter for updates on bands in April and May including Strangeland, Broken Toys and more. This season

I will have special attractions at each bike night including the Jet Bike, Race Cars and other extreme motor sports on display. Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 8th and help us kick off the Spring season for 2018!

Harley-Davidson Recall:

Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 250,000 motorcycles because the brakes might fail.
The voluntary recall, which last week Harley said would cost it $29.4 million, covers more than 30 CVO Touring and VSRC bikes, model years 2008 through 2011 equipped with anti-lock brakes. Nearly 175,000 of those bikes sold in the United States. The trouble appears to lie with the brake fluid, which some owners apparently aren't changing as required every two years.

The old fluid can become contaminated by moisture and may be corroding the anti-lock brake system's actuator valves. If it does, the valves won't work. "While it may be true that complainants failed to adhere to Harley-Davidson's two-year brake fluid service interval requirement, the consequent sudden and complete loss of brakes, without warning, is a concern," the recall documents said. Documents show Harley wanted to do a field service campaign instead of a recall, but the government refused. The company says it cooperated with NHTSA and began a thorough evaluation of the issue. "Complex, ongoing discussions regarding what was ultimately identified as a maintenance issue continued with the agency through January 2018," Harley-Davidson said in a printed statement. Dealers will flush and replace brake fluid starting on Feb. 12.
