Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the last newsletter about a couple of local ride ideas, Click Here to View. If for some reason the email does not make it to your inbox, you can always view it online at .

The weather that we have been waiting for is finally here. Hope you took advantage of it last weekend and again this weekend. But if you are riding in the East Valley around the 101 and Scottsdale Rd., please be careful as there will be thousands of cars in that are around there due to the Phoenix Open happening this week. A good idea would be to stay far away from that area.

Last Friday Mrs. C. and I went to the Mecum Vintage Motorcycle Auction in Las Vegas that I was mentioning in the newsletter last week. Sales might be slumping at Harley-Davidson for motorcycles, but they certainly were not for vintage motorcycles. The star of the show was a 1939 Crocker Big Tank with a 1000cc V-Twin Engine that went for $704,000 out the door. Crockers are very rare and sought after motorcycles. They were also the fastest and the most powerful of their era which were 15-20 mph faster than the Knucklehead. The 1937 Crocker Small Tank 61-25 went for a mere $423,500 out the door.

Those were the most expensive bikes that sold, but there were several others that went for well over $100,000 including the famous 1925 Brough Superior SS100 Alpine Grand Sport that went for $357,500 and the 1912 Henderson 965cc 4 Cylinder that sold for $302,500. I know this is not of interest for everyone by any means. But if you are the least bit interested in the inflated prices of older motorcycles, it is fun to see what some of these are going for these days. Click Here for the auction results from Friday. On the left you can click into the other days and cruise through all of the prices.
If you are inclined to visit the auction next year in Las Vegas, here are some photos of the venue and several photos of bikes that I thought were interesting to me.

Mecum is also having a huge car/motorcycle auction here in Phoenix at the Cardinals Football stadium March 14-16. They are expecting 1000 cars and 100 motorcycles to be auctioned off.

Stay tuned to the newsletter for next week as I will be announcing the Bike Night Schedules that will be starting in March.

And just for fun, check out this VROD that I saw for sale at the Eaglerider Motorcycle Sales in Tempe this week. It has a 360 rear tire and a 260 front tire. I have never seen anything quite like that. I might just have to take that one for a ride when I have some more time. Click Here to View.

Please stay up to date and "Like" the Facebook Page for updates on special activations, Live Music and Specials at both of our Bike Nights.

Enjoy your week and
Please Ride Safe!

For those of you that keep up with what is going on with the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, they just released earnings this week and it wasn't so good. The decline in sales is continuing due to the age of their core riders and the profits are being squeezed. U.S. retail sales were down about 10% in the 4th quarter and profits got clobbered. Palo Verde Rd. in Buckeye, AZ on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9th and 10th. This would be a great outing with the Kids and Grandkids, or just an afternoon of fun in this great weather.
The airshow will begin with a parachute jump with the American Flag during the National Anthem. Following that there is a great lineup for the airshow this year including a one of a kind YAK110 flown by . This is where Russion military hardware meets American engineering. They actually took 2 YAK 55's and stuck them together, then added a jet engine in the middle for some extra fun. I saw this plane in Oshkosh this past Summer and it is a must see! You will also see a bi-plane performance from Jon Melby Airshows as well as Brad Wursten in his "Power Addiction" Airshow. Each maneuver will be described by Airshow Announcer extraordinarie Jeff Overby. The airshow takes place between Noon and 2pm both days. There are also a lot of static displays of aircraft that you can get up close to and lots of vendors. There are also a lot of activities for the kids. The event is from 9am - 3pm both days.
