Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week with the story, video and pictures about the Las Vegas New Years Eve Fireworks, Click Here to View.

Well, yesterday we got our first rain since February of 2010, at least it seems that way. It has definitely been a while. As the wind started picking up last night, I went out back to cover up the patio furniture and the smell of rain was in the air. I heard a motorcycle going through the gears in the distance with what seemed to be a definite purpose. My guess is that getting home dry was the top thing on his mind at that point, because the rain wasn't far away and he was heading into it.

I'm sure we have all been caught in the rain at some point, and it is never very much fun. Hearing that motor roar like a horse going back to the barn reminded me of an episode of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Seinfeld talks about his teenage years where he obsessively worried about whether he would grow up as either a 'motorcycle guy' or 'sports car guy' believing there was no way to be both. "I've got to decide what I am and who I am and that will determine how I get around," said Seinfeld.

He then relays a story of working in his father's shop, where one of the mechanics rode a motorcycle to work every single day. During a bad rain storm, an adolescent Seinfeld asked the mechanic if he wished he had a car. The mechanic responds, "No, I just wish it wasn't raining." As motorcycle riders, I think we can all relate to that response. Generally speaking, I would much rather be on a motorcycle, but not in the rain. But Seinfeld did open up the question. Do you think you could be a motorcycle guy only, or a car guy only? I personally think having both is the best answer.

I mentioned last week that we were working on the Spring dates for the Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District. Friday night was the overwhelming choice in the poll that I did, so we were trying to accommodate that as much as possible without having conflicts with events happening at the arena. Another consideration was to start it earlier and end it earlier. What turned out to be the best and easiest was to start on Thursday, March 8th and do all the following Thursdays in March. Then switch to Fridays on April 6th and continue through June 1st. This will give us 13 nights this season.

The dates will look like this:
Thursdays      Fridays:
March 8th        April 6th         May 4th
June 1st
March 15th       April 13th         May 11th
March 22nd      April 20th        May 18th
March 29th      April 27th        May 25th

I look forward to kicking off bike night and seeing all of you again this Spring.
